Is 4 A-Levels necessary to study Medicine

I'm looking to apply for medicine at these universities:
Southampton
Kings
Imperial/UCL
Nottingham

I've just started Year 12 and have chosen these Subjects to study at A Level:
Biology
Chemistry
Maths
Further Maths

What I initially thought of doing was to do both Maths and Further Maths at AS level ( since there is no AS level for Biology and Chemistry) and then drop Further Maths so that I study Biology, Chemistry and Maths at Year 13 for A level.

However due to changes in the A-level specification the requirements for applying to Medical School for 2017 have changed. This means that they are only looking for 3 A levels and not expecting a fourth subject to be done at AS level.
Does this really mean that a fourth subject does not need to be done at only AS level
Therefore do you think its worth it to do Further Maths up to AS level or should I just drop it now so that I can focus on the other three subjects for 2 years. I know that I'm definitely not going to do Further Maths at A2 (only as AS).
Also do you think the new 2017 requirements for applying to medical school are subject to change

I was in the same position and have been looking into this for about a week.
For the majority of courses, you do not need an AS in a fourth subject. The offers are almost always based on three A-levels, since the government have reformed the exams. If your courses do not mention an AS then in my opinion it would be best to focus on better grades in your 3 subjects, that's what I'm doing. I think that a B in an AS would look worse than no AS at all. The only course I have seen that wants an AS in a fourth subject is lancaster medicine, but even oxford and cambridge no longer have this as a requirement.

I'm in the exact position as you, I'm also taking biology chemistry maths and further maths. However, despite universities saying you only need 3, I'm keeping all 4 subjects only because there's that extra subject that I know I can rely on to get an A or a B instead of all the pressure of having to get top grades in those 3 subjects with no scope for manoeuvrability

I'd advise to pick one of the either - maths OR further maths, because some unis don't even care if you do them both, they only need one so it's a waste of time good luck!
