Coq only played today to rest Xhaka for PSG and he was the second best player on our team tbh.
Arsenal's CB scoring an overhead kick while ours provides the perfect assist to the opposing ST...

Equal in the league - looks to be between Arsenal, Liverpool, Everton and Spurs for 4th.
Didn't realise your pen was so soft.

90+4!!!! :colonhash:

It's gonna be a huge battle tbh.

Arsenal are 4th place specialists but are riding their luck at times.

Liverpool are poor defensively but look stupidly good going forward and have had some awful fixtures.

Spurs have an extremely solid defence and have the best full backs in the league who really add to their attack.

Everton....are surprising. They could go 2nd/3rd tomorrow with a win, although I can't say they've been properly tested as yet.

Meh, I don't buy the hype with Utd. I think City will walk the title but I will reserve my judgment on the rest of the table until I see the 19 other teams got head to head. Remember everyone else was downplaying Pep and KDB until yesterday so I will trust my judgment on this one.

Given how good Pep is, I think 2nd place is like a trophy in this league.

You don't think Chelsea can challenge them? Despite our pretty average defence we've actually looked good defensively while City ain't kept a clean sheet this season. Both our sides have goals in them and very strong midfields and while defensively they could do with small tweaks, our managers actually pick players based on form rather than reputation unlike other title challenging managers.

Pep's philosophy is to score more than the other team, the philosophy of Cruyff. His teams have never been the type to actively go out looking to keep a clean sheet. I mean the guy quite brazenly says he would rather risk losing a goal than to abandon the philosophy of maintaining possession as it means it fulfils the idea that the Goalkeeper and central defender is the first attacker and maintains control of a game. The guy is all about control, like I am sure he has some sort of OCD mental illness but yeah, that is Pep. He just does not prioritise the clean sheet.

They've let in 4 goals in 4 games and pro-rata that is 38 goals over a season. However, this is the PL and its much more difficult than other leagues. Plus I don't think Stones is a great defender but they will have so much of the ball that he will be more than good enough.

The key is the dominance in these games and the fact that they will often score first because they will just kill the game early on. Their defence is not so bad that it can't withstand pressure from quick attacks if they sit back. . . and they have also shown they can counter.
They do have a weak facet whereby they take the lead and then sit back in the middle of the second half... however I think that is more to do with the fact that the other team starts throwing the kitchen sink at them because they're behind and have nothing to lose. They have the likes of Sterling, Sane and KDB bombing forward to punish that type of approach.

I reserve my judgment on Chelsea until I see them play the teams around them. I reserve judgment on the defence and I reserve judgment on the attack as it still seems like you depend on Hazard and Costa.
If the game was played on paper then Mourinho would be walking the title because they have Pogba/Ibrah and they can do everything apparently!

Also re Arsenal's scrappy wins: Chelsea have won twice in the final minutes of the games. It's not just us.
Also regarding us, I just get so pissed off whenever I see Ozil have to drop back and help transition the ball into the final third of the pitch. Because we lack great ball carriers, we are stuck often in the middle third, in the opponent's half, playing far too many passes than is necessary. I do think Cazorla greatly reduces this problem as he has a decent enough passing range but he also has deficiencies in his game which leave a lot to be desired. I think its why Cazorla and Coquelin worked well, as it was defensive enough and Cazorla could move the ball quicker than the others up to the final third where Ozil is at his most effective.

Having Ozil in the middle third is just not really utilising his strengths. I think that is what Xhaka was meant to be for, tbh, as his passing cuts out the need for all that intricate *******s whereby an opposition team can easily just press the ball away from us.

Also regarding the problem with Walcott and Chamberlain, they are good athletes but they are not good footballers. I would rather have Nasri back honestly because he had the guile of a proper Arsenal attacking player.
Peps philosophy is to score more than the other team? Groundbreaking stuff. Stopped reading at that point

I'd sooner start Iwobi than those two jokers

This really, although you failed to make the link that Coquelin and Cazorla's individual jobs should be done by one player (e.g.Xhaka), so that way we can make the most of Ramsey.

Our best midfield trio is:

Xhaka Ramsey
Ozil.

Agreed. We shouldn't really even need an out and out DM like Coquelin to play if the defence is good and the CM's are not pushovers. People forget that Makelele himself was a good all round midfielder, something that Coquelin is not.

Yeah exactly, Coquelin is just a ball winner, Tiote mark 2.

He's very good at his job. But he's just not a great footballer, I mean I saw evidence of ball carrying yesterday and I've seen evidence of decent enough passes forward, but its not really his forte.

As a ball winner, he is top class and the type of guy you would want to shield the back four if you lack top class defenders. We have a lot of competent defenders now so it is going to be tough for him. However, for the past two seasons we have really needed him because of defensive problems.
