Personal statement receives a very, very low weighting. A TSA score, predictions and GCSEs are far more important. The mean score for an interviewed candidate was 66.9, whilst you need to be predicted the entry requirements whilst the average GCSE A*s of an interviewed candidate is 8.5 A*s.

Yeah I got an interview last year but screwed it up lol, so I'm having another go. If you're applying to LSE just gear it up towards them because that's the only chance of getting an offer from them (since they have all the Oxford and Cambridge people applying be to them with no tests or interviews). If it's good enough for LSE it'll be good enough for everywhere else.

Thanks, you too! Yep, pure Econ at LSE, Warwick and Bristol are my other options. I'm leaving option 5 blank so I can change it depending on which offers I receive.

Provided I get the Bristol offer, that was going to be filled in as my fifth choice too! I'm 100% sure of getting Bristol though since I already have the grades and my school is in the contextual bracket anyway lol, so we almost certainly will be competing directly with each other 😂 (or will be course-mates, hopefully?)

I think I have the grades but I just need a stellar PS. I'm an international student studying in the UK so I don't know if there's any country quotas. Hopefully we'll both get into our first choices!!!

Oh really, where are you from? When I was at the interviews I met people from Australia, Italy, Switzerland, USA etc. which was really great, there aren't any specific quotas but internationals are by no means at a disadvantage! Interviews are based pretty much on your admissions test score provided you have the minimum predicted grades (plus contextual data on how good your school is). And yes, hopefully we'll both make it in! Which college are you thinking of applying to?

GCSE: 5A* 4A 1B
AS: AAAA
A2: A*AA + A* EPQ (achieved)
TSA: 63.3 (hoping to improve on it this year, I got 68 in one of my practise papers )

My GCSE's are a little weak as far as Oxbridge is concerned, but my school is in the bottom 40% lmao and they contextualise it so it doesn't really matter.

So do you think maybe a short paragraph about Management would be sufficient?

I'm from Malaysia! honestly, I thought i was going to apply for cambridge so I chose a college there but I've just started looking at colleges at Oxford. 😂What are you choosing?

Thanks Last year I applied to and got an interview at Brasenose. It's such a friendly atmosphere there and all the students were really welcoming (and the building itself is great), but it'd be so awkward to have an interview with the same professors again lol. On the open day last year, my second favourite (of the ones I visited) was Oriel, so that's my strongest contender so far. My friend is at St Hilda's though so I'm considering there too.

Brasenose is lovely, stayed there for UNIQ, it's central too, located near the high street. I'm looking to apply to St Hugh's myself, and Oriel seems like a great college but they don't seem to offer the course St Hilda's looks really nice too

Let me quote something from an official Oxford source:
"How do I write a convincing personal statement which shows my interest in Economics and Management when the other courses I'm applying for are pure Economics?

We understand this dilemma, and if your personal statement focuses on your interest in Economics, then this will not count against you"

You do not need to mention Management as it will jeopardise your chance of receiving an offer from the likes of UCL and LSE

Ah, nice! And I would recommend visiting the colleges if you can on the open day as you get a 'feel' for them whilst your there. I don't know what it is particularly, but some just feel like more of a personal fit than others haha. Plus you have things like age, past alumni, location to consider! I think I'm going to apply to Oriel, but I'm still considering St Hilda's because one of my friends is there (not visited the latter myself though so I'm a bit in the fence, whereas when I went to Oriel I really liked the library 😂 https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/2f/Oriel_College_Senior_Library.jpg )

Oh I'm surprised about that since E&M is so popular. I really think they need to increase the spaces available for E&M, even Brasenose only had 3.
For the next few months I'm going to be working to save up some money, as well as helping teach Maths at my old school and socialise with the few people who retook the year lol (since my other friends will be at uni), but next year I plan to join one of these gap year schemes where you go abroad and help with development projects in Asia/Africa or wherever, and then in the summer I'm going to travel around Europe if I can get a few people to come with me. I know someone who lives in Germany too which is convenient, so I'm going to head over that way through France and Belgium, before going down to Italy and then back up to England via Switzerland and France again. That's the plan, anyway
