How many references can I use for UCAS?

How are predicted grades put on UCAS when you have no AS level grades to show?

You only get one reference. Your referee will predict your grades, and can talk to your other teachers to find out what they think

Are you sure just one? So I can't have 2 different references as I'm applying for History & Economics?

EDIT: Im not applying from any schools or centres - i'm applying individually/privately if that makes a difference.
