Study tips to get the grade you want

Be persistent.

Use the Pomodoro Technique (google it if you don't know), it is a really effective way of getting a lot of work done in a short amount of time.

Listen to some Focus music on Spotify or something to help you concentrate!

Be organised and neat with work so you can easily review it later when you need it.

If your struggling, ask the teacher (or friends) or do some research by yourself on the internet to help you understand. Things like YouTube, BBC Bitesize et cetera...

Be creative with notes, don't just write them out, highlight important things to remember and keywords.

Don't just copy from a textbook, you won't understand (well I don't). Instead read the textbook then when you're making the notes try to put it into your own words, simplify it so it can be easier to comprehend.

I drank lots of caffeine (especially coffee because it is slow-release) during exam season to make me more alert and do stuff... quickly It actually helps most people but I wouldn't recommend drinking any quick-release caffeine or drinking it after noon because it is going to be hard to go to sleep.

On that note, get LOTS of sleep.

Also on that note, read your notes/textbook/work before you go to bed because it will be easier to remember.

Find out your learning style. You could be an audio learner, visual, kinesthetic... I am mostly a visual learner. Click here to do a small test to find out what kind of learner you are

BIG tip. Plan ahead, if your going to do 2 hours of studying tomorrow make sure you do that, if you only manage to do 1 hour don't let that discourage you. You can always make up for it the next day, maybe the next day your planning to do 2 hours but since you missed out on 1 hour that day you add it on to make 3 hours. Just have that mindset and it will get you through it.

Don't stress, more you do the more likely you are going to freak out mid-test and possibly fail.

Update 03/09/16:
Just a short update, I'm just catching up on a few bits of my History H/W of which I should've done much earlier but due to family commitments and other external problems I couldn't do them until recently. On the other sides of things, I'm feeling a bit apprehensive about returning to school as I've found out I've moved tutor groups and I'm pretty sure the tutor room is a Computing suite. Why am I panicking? - To keep this brief, I hate Computing as I dislike the way the controlled assessments work on the OCR exam board and that ESO isn't a very nice teacher. I'm worried that my new tutor (I don't know their gender) would be horrible as well and they could possibly be my new Computing teacher (50% chance) following the departure of 2 teachers from a tiny department. I hope it will be ok but I'm just worried I have no one I can trust to vent out my frustrations be it stress or just someone I feel comfortable talking to about an issue, I guess I always have my favourite teachers DLA (Main Science teacher and mentor) and SDA (French teacher) around.

Next update is due on Monday, until then thanks for reading my blog and enjoy your day.

Update 05/09/16:
I don't know how I should exactly start this update but I haven't had a great day returning from the Summer break as you'll find out below and like many I was really apprehensive. Well, I arrived at school early as I normally do and it was a bad idea, we weren't allowed upstairs to access the library and outside was extremely crowded mainly thanks to Y7s being in a huddle making me feel very claustrophobic. We started off with a stupid lineup which took forever before heading to tutor. My tutor is NNA/PRO which isn't exactly great as I wanted somebody else but at least my best friend was still in my tutor group, with the 8th tutor being dissolved hence there was a huge change in tutor groups. We started off with the typical expectations both in the classroom and in the assembly which got on my nerves. After break was a bloody Biology lesson with TBA which was alright although he rushed the lesson a bit. After tutor and lunch, I had Computing/IT in the same class thanks to this ridiculous class merge plan and I still have ESO because nobody was brave enough to handle this merged class. The lesson was horrible as the IT students were extremely noisy with a shouty ESO, Chris Evans style and I did hardly anything as I couldn't concentrate, my Computing classmates couldn't either.

Below is a copy of my timetable:
14232993_1757565587834777_6265950174833340823_n.jpg

In terms of revision tonight, I'm going to do some revision/homework for a while and analyse War Photographer for English with my friends via Skype.

In other news, I'm planning to start going gym very soon as I'm a bit inactive but will need to plan my schedule tightly for this to work. This will hopefully get me fitter and it should help me relieve some stress from the academic sides of things.

Next main update is due on Friday and until then, thank you for taking your time for reading this rather large update and enjoy your day.

I would recommend not going to the gym tbh, but training outside instead. I realise that it's not always possible, but I run 3-4 times a week and mountain bike 1-2 times a week, just in my local woods, where they have mountain bike trails and running paths. (Swinley Forest if you're curious). But anyway, I would strongly recommend being outside, and running (I may be being slightly bias as a runner, but I recommend it to everyone so... xD) Have fun whatever you do  Nice blog as well btw

Hi @bjt1882, thanks for the advice, very appreciated. I'll try doing more exercise but at the moment I'm just busy with lots of homework etc that needs catching up on. Also thanks for wishing me luck with my studies and the same goes to you. Glad you like the blog

Update 09/09/16:
To be honest with you, I don't know how I should start this update but the first week back into Y11 has been nothing but hectic and stressful. I guess I will just summarize what has happened during the week and where necessary have a "mini rant".

- English (OSO): We've finished London[i] by William Blake and are now starting War Photographer by Carol Ann Duffy before doing The Charge of the Light Brigade by Alfred, Lord Tennyson. I also have to teach a poem and I'm doing Remains by Simon Armitage and have to work with two people I dislike.

- Biology (TBA): As aforementioned the lesson was a bit rushed but we've started B3 and revised over B2.

- Computing (ESO): Not a surprised, his lessons are still awful and I have to complete task 3 of my CA by Monday and I'm nowhere near finished and will need @_gcx and @Lemur14 's help if necessary.

- French (SDA): Currently sorting out our CA and I have homework which is to learn the answer to the first question.

- History (MPO): She's a really nice teacher and we're just finishing out USA Land of Freedom before we do our CA.

- Chemistry (DLA): We've finished our Biology ISA which him so now we need to finish off C2 before doing C3.

- Maths (KWA): He's a really good teacher but our first lesson was a bit rusty.

- Physics (PPA): Absolutely horrible first impression, he didn't bother asking us properly where we were in Physics and he didn't seem to have a proper lesson plan either. It was just a confusing and dull lesson of Snell's Law of which I knew literally second to nothing of what I was doing. FFS. I will make a formal complaint to DLA.

With regards to homework, I've been set homework for every subject this week so I have a lot to do over the weekend and I'm very pissed off but I suppose it will be the norm and I have to do it else face serious ramifications from school - detention with principle and I don't want that.

In terms of other news, I've tired to register for the open evening at a sixth form I really want to go to but they somehow forgot about it so I'm going to keep a close eye on that.

Next main update is due on Monday and until then, thank you for taking your time for reading this rather large update and enjoy your day.

P.S: Sorry for the lack of pictures in this update but I hope you've enjoy reading this.

Update 12/09/16:
This week's quote(s) of the week are:
Look for something positive in each day, even if some days you have to look a little harder.
There is no elevator to success. You have to take the stairs.

I've decided to start the quote(s) of the week after @Just Some Person (Cerian) inspired me with her quote "Motivation is the breakfast for success" which I found very inspiration and since then I thought that starting this will add the much need oomph of motivation I really lack.

The start of this new week has been very smooth so far despite that I was very apprehensive about Computing but like the first quote of the week says, there was some positives today which I'll explain below.

Maths (KWA): Due to Eid Mubarak, some students were absent. We're finishing off at linear graphs and looking at some complex questions to do with rate of change (gradient). Overall the lesson was very enjoyable and sir explained things very well.

Biology (TBA): We're still doing Osmosis and today we mainly did an experiment which didn't go to well as we got results that we didn't expect when doing some experiment involving a potato and blackcurrant squash/water.

Computing (ESO): I have made some progress in Task 3 of my A453 as he has made a useful PowerPoint slide which explained the steps to the task much more clearly and I just need to sort out Compressing and Decompressing the text as well as Task 2. I would like to give a shout out to @_gcx and @Lemur14 for both giving me some support in CA.

In other news, I'm in the process of finding sixth forms and chasing them around about when the sixth form open evening will be held.

Next main update is Friday and until then, thank you for taking your time for reading this rather large update and enjoy your day.

YAY Progress in computing! Well done Jacky  (and thanks to George for being more useful than me with some computing which Jacky could actually understand unlike when I try to program in python lol)

Hey  when the 2017 comperition officially starts in a few months, all of the threads in the 2016 forum (imcluding this one) will be moved to an archive. It's probably best to either have your blog in the GCSE forum for now or make it when the competition os actually open

Hi. Could you kindly move my thread to the GCSE section as I obviously don't have access to move threads from one place to the other. Thanks
