Actually Oxford receives more applications, has more students, and has a lower acceptance rate. TSR is not reflective of the wider society.

Oxford also ranks higher on Times Higher Education, REF, and has remained more culturally relevant world-wide (as demonstrated by its alumni achievements (such as the fact that its alumni are in power right now in the UK, Australia, Myanmar, Perú, Jordan, Norway, and Bhutan; may even get its first Emperor of Japan soon, although of course that's only a ceremonial position), presence in popular culture, social network engagements, and internet mentions.

That's interesting.
Different emphasis with regards to GCSE results, as others have mentioned. Cambridge IN GENERAL are better for STEM fields than Oxford I find, looking at league tables. I didnt particularly like Oxford when I visited, I quite liked Cambridge.

My theory is this. TSR also has a disproportionately large number of people doing STEM subjects (or atleast the number of 'STEM > everything else' threads suggests so). Since, fairly or not, Cambridge seems to have the better reputation for many of these subjects it follows that there will be a disproportionately large number of applicants to Cambridge on TSR.

This is consistent with what happened at my old school. In the last 4 years we have sent 4 people to Cambridge and 2 to Oxford. The Cambridge lot included a computer scientist, a mathematician and 2 natural scientists. The Oxford pair were studying art and history of art.

Because C goes before the O.

But the ox goes before the bridge.
My old biology teacher used to be adamant that Cambridge was more elitist and snobby, no idea if that's true though.
Am I the only one who noticed the Title?

No, it means that instead of having 'Oxbridge', it seems like is more like 'Cambridge'. I guess the title's minor intricacy went far beyond your understanding.
- Cambridge cared less about my GCSE results (below 'Oxbridge standard') and more about my AS UMS average, which was quite decent

- Cambridge seemed a lot more state school friendly, with students from Sidney Sussex visiting my sixth form frequently.

- At the time of applying, I was conflicted between studying Chem or Biochem at uni. The Cambridge NatSci course lets me try modules out before specialising.

- Cambridge looks prettier.

- Cambridge has less of a 'toff' image to me, but apparently it's more 'toffish' than Oxford :erm:

- I have relatives living in Cambridge, so my parents feel less worried about me living there lol

I noticed that majority of Oxbridge students on here or aspiring Oxbridge applicants are applying to/a student at Cambridge. It's like Oxford is always picked second for a team.

I want to know why did/are you picked Cambridge over Oxford?

I'm choosing Cambridge because I prefer their course structure for the subject I want to do.

Definitely seems like more talented people come out of Cambridge. I'm pretty sure it has twice the number of Nobel laureates than Oxford for one, along with a higher UCAS Tarrif on the other, and same/higher A Level requirements on every mutual course.

I'm applying for medicine. Chose Oxford biochemistry as a fifth choice purely because I don't have the stamina to do the BMAT and the NatSci paper on the same day.

That isn't "intricacy"

It's just you being redundant.

You wanna compare both schools, write Oxford or Cambridge.
The guy from that TV show went to Cambridge but got a 2:2, and now earns like £100,000 per episode

What's his name?

Because Oxford cares a lot about GCSEs and my GCSEs were not up to scratch. I would rather apply to Oxford though if I was in a position to.

They really don't care that much about it - I certainly wouldn't pick Cambridge over Oxford just because of that reason, especially if you'd rather apply to Oxford.
