asked to live with postgrads...

I'm 24 and just moved into halls as I was unable to find my own flat in the city centre.

I moved in Monday and met two of the guys in my flat, one is 23 and one is 25 -
they're both undergrads. The other two guys are yet to move in I think.

For two nights in a row now they've thrown parties which go on until the early hours and left the communal door wide open to let anyone in. There have been at least 40+ people in the kitchen each night with music blearing until 3am.

They have drinking game rules on the fridge door, the kitchen is a state. I can't cook as there is no room to wash my dishes. I've pretty much kept myself isolated to my room as i've been asked to start work on my dissertation before my course officially starts and have been working on that.

Don't get me wrong I like to drink and socialise every now and then but they're taking the piss. I thought living with people this age would be a chill experience. Is it considered normal for 24/25 year olds to act like 18 year old freshers? should I complain?

I'm planning on bringing a few mates up from home this weekend and taking over the kitchen before they get the chance

I would definitely complain. You'd have thought they would have matured a bit, but it never seems to happen with undergrads....

maybe i'm just being miserable, but last night was a bit too far imo... girls screaming at the top of their lungs. Bit confused as to why 25 year olds would want to party with 18 year old freshers but each to their own

Just frustrates me that I am supposed to be in a postgraduate block. Even I never experienced anything like last night when I was an undergrad

Its freshers week. You do have the problem that there will be limited to no other accommodation available. If you are oing to complain then take photos and video so you cna get ur case across. Ince you do complain and they find out, then the atmosphere will get toxic so be careful how you handle it. See what accomm say and maube give it a few weeks. On the meanime pit yourself on the wiating list for a transfer in case someone leaves.

I was more highlighting that it's freshers week (or will be soon) than them being undergraduates. I don't think this is unusual behaviour. Also, I'm the same age as you, I'm still up for partying with the freshers this year. OK, maybe I'm not gonna go completely wild this October like you're describing but then I never did even when I was 18. We only get a few years at university so there's nothing wrong with people making the most of it while they can. If it continues much during term time week nights then you may have an argument to complain about the noise to them. Don't complain to the accommodation officer without speaking to them first, or you'll become very unpopular with them.

hi. just to say, i met my flatmates earlier in the kitchen. they told me they had a crazy party last night which got out of hand, and was full of 17/18 year olds going crazy, screaming and spewing. they apologised, said it won't happen again and suggested we're the 'old guys' in the block, so all is good.
