What is your specialty/what do you want to specialise in

Hey am currently an adult student, just wandering, what do you want to specialise in? or for the qualified what do you specialise in?
I want to do medical nursing, just unsure what part of medical?

Anyone from different fields please let me know yours too

I'm a paeds nurse  I work on a Medical/Medical HDU ward in a children's hospital.

Our scope is really broad. We do anything from cystic fibrosis patients coming in for prophylactic IVABs to metabolic patients with deranged bloods to oncology patients with ?neutropenia to a child having had a seizure for the first time.

Over the course of a year, probably about 50% of our patients have a single ongoing health need or have very complex medical needs. The other 50% are "generally well" and present with an acute illness such as septicaemia, a UTI or bronchiolitis and will return home with no lasting implications after appropriate treatment.I really enjoy the variety the ward offers - it keeps me interested

What year are you in? How much exposure to medicine have you had so far? What interests you?

I'm a critical care nurse. It's an environment I love working in, there's always something to learn and because of staffing ratios I deliver all the personal care for my patients along with managing the complex therapies they're receiving.

I'm first year, my first placement was a medical ward and prior to starting my training I was a hca on a medical ward. I really enjoy looking after people who are really poorly, i enjoy how busy a medical ward can be and the variety of patients you get.
Have you been in critical care since qualifying?

No, I worked as a theatre nurse for a bit first. I've been a critical care nurse for a while now. I quite liked medicine, especially acute medicine when I was a student. I did a placement in critical care though and loved it.
Philosophy and Theology, then law for a tidy career:tongue:
I know my way around the jewellery trade but if I am planning to specialise more specifically
in gemmology
I am a third year now and have my sights firmly set on palliative or at the opposite end and working in health visiting!
I'm also looking at completing a PhD at the moment too so I am hoping to get the grades to allow me to do so
