my favourite/best tutors explain things right from the basics and are prepared to explain it a number of different, simple ways until I finally understand. Always write notes in front of the student and SET HOMEWORK because its tempting for the student to not revise it after the lesson and then its back to square 1. at the end of each lesson consolidate what was taught by going through 2 or 3 exam questions together.

I've had a lot of people contact me about Maths tutoring (although sadly no one close enough to where I live) so hopefully you'll find someone quickly. Have you thought about after school Maths clubs (like MagicalMaths?) as well?
