18 to 21 year olds, is 28 years old too old to live in halls?
Hi there,
I have been to uni before, but it was my backup choice and I didn't get the chance to stay in a proper hall. I graduated at the age of 25 with a BA . Now I am going back to do a masters but I have opted to stay in halls, I'm 28 years old.
I chose halls because it was a little cheaper and I want to be part of the social experience that comes with living in halls and I am really worried that 28 is simply too old for that.
Is it? I feel that if the second oldest person on my floor is no older than 21, then I'm just going to be viewed as the creepy older guy that no one wants to socialise with.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Well i'd feel uncomfortable. But i would try to act no differently. Definitively wouldn't purposely ignore you

Well I'm 17 but I'll be going to university next year, and to be honest if you were a nice guy then I wouldn't care how old you were haha xD
do they try and put mature students together? Would not be so bad then
I (20) wouldn't mind, but to be honest I imagine you'd find the 18 year olds incredibly immature. I lived with some 21 year olds in my first year and they said they couldn't stand how immature some of the block mates were.

Yeah, I think so, that's what they said. The reason why I am worrying is that I have already "met" 10 people out of 18 I'll be living with via a Facebook group and the eldest in 20 so far.

Absolutely I could! For the first few weeks anyway. I'm bringing ear plugs!

If you're doing a masters does your uni not have halls exclusively for postgraduates? If so, a significant proportion of your flatmates will also be 25+. I don't think at your age it's a good idea to move in with 18/19/20 year olds as you would probably find them a nightmare to live with.
Think about it, they have only just become legal adults and will likely be going bat$hit crazy on booze, sex, drugs and every other worldly sin. At the same time, you will be trying to study.
You'll probably have no common ground with them whatsoever.

It depends whether you're willing to vomit into a pint glass, and then drink the contents.

I more concerned about whether or not they'll be bothered about me getting involved in such tomfoolery.
I want to get fully involved in the student way of life for the first few weeks, after that I'll be fine, I'm bringing ear plugs and I intend to spend a lot of time during the day in the library anyway. In fact, I'm going to try and do all of my studying in the library so I can just socialise when I'm in the halls.
I wouldn't care either way but I see why some would. Going to postgraduate halls would give you a better experience probably. Everyone there would be at least 22-23 probably older. Don't know about your uni but mine has some halls reserved specifically for postgraduate students.
Even still, if you go to mixed halls I don't really see there being a problem. You may not get along with some of your flatmates, considering your age, you might be more mature so find things they do or enjoy a bit idiotic. But there are usually plenty of older students around.
