M&S training day... Can I make it?

Right, on Monday I have my training day, and then again on Wednesday. I've already started college, and due to my timetable the training day is looking impossible to go to.

I'm in a tricky situation. My form tutor is quite on my case because I've missed our college induction day and have been quite late to lessons, all have been explained. He wasn't completely for the idea of me having a part time job.

He's also a teacher for one of my subjects, and due to the training days I will have to miss his lessons. I'm afraid to tell him because before he has mentioned me getting withdrawn from the college due to my 'attendance' (bearing in mind that we literally only started last week on Wednesday). He said he may issue me a verbal warning, and I feel like by missing two more of his lessons + tutorial group he'll take action.

I've asked my mum if she could call in and tell him because I'm afraid lol, and she's up for it. But do you think it would be better to ask M&S if they could rearrange it? Really need that job but really need to attend college. I'm 18 next month and this will be my first job.

Put college first. You've accepted the job agreeing to the hours... you should call M&S and see if they can reschedule but make sure you're 100% you can make the new date. Employers hate being messed around.

How should I go about calling M&S? Thanks for replying by the way.

One of my friend was in a similar situaion to you, he took his part time job more serious then his education. after 2 years of AS, he failed ( got DDD) and prefered to get paid from his job and worked a few days during the weekdays when he was supposed to be at college (colleges dont care if you bunk school at those times). now at the age of 23, he regrets having the job because there are people around him who have degress and are getting better salaries and much more funner time then him then at his retail job.

But its up to you, money comes in handy when you need to get somethign for educational purposes or want to have a good time but you need to have a good balance between studies and work. its ur choice, just dont get too overhanged by taking work serious if you know you want to have a good future in your educational studies and get a better job then at m and s.

a similar situation with a family member, she preferred to socialise with friends and used to bunk a ton of college just to hang around with friends.. she was a straight A student in gcse and thought a levels was easy. later did she know, she failed and got Us and now regrets socialising in those days.

Yeah, I get why it may not be a good idea to get a part time job whilst in education. However, I know when to quit when things get too much for me and I can't handle balancing both my job and education. I'll only be doing 16 hours a week out of school hours and I'm pretty sure I can take it. If I can't, as mentioned before I'll quit because education is much more of a priority to me.

I'll only be missing 2 days worth of college for the training days and then I'll continue going college whilst working outside college hours. It's still only the beginning of college but my form tutor/teacher is pretty serious. I messed up bad at AS last year and I'm not going to let that happen again.

In the branch where i worked they did training after hours ( for school and college pupils) and at the weekend, especially coming up to them taking Christmas temps I would phone them and explain the situation rather than get onto bother at college.
