Assume you are computing oxygen-16 nucleus, there are 8 protons and 8 neutrons, you use the mass of neutron and proton to compute the mass of oxygen-16 nucleus.

[br]massofproton=1.6727×1027 kg[br]massofneutron=1.6750×1027 kg[br]massofoxygen16=8×1.6727×1027+8×1.6750×1027[br][br]mass of proton = 1.6727 \times 10^{-27} \text{ kg}[br]mass of neutron = 1.6750 \times 10^{-27} \text{ kg}[br]mass of oxygen-16 = 8 \times 1.6727 \times 10^{-27} + 8 \times 1.6750 \times 10^{-27}[br]
