EU protection racket threatens to kneecap England

Europe will make Brexit “very painful” and ensure Britain is worse off outside the EU, Slovakia’s premier has said, as he dismissed the UK’s confidence about divorce talks as “bluff”.

“It will be very difficult for the UK, very difficult,” he said in an interview with the Financial Times, “The EU will take this opportunity to show the public: ‘listen guys, now you will see why it is important to stay in the EU’. This will be the position.”

European leaders would not “send Britain to hell as soon as possible”, Mr Fico said. “We are patient. We are fine because we know what we want,” he added.

I don't get your logic - what do you expect? Britain literally left because it considered the EU states a burden. Did you honestly think they'd say 'oh, okay - we get it. Let's give it all to Britain as they wish'.

One way or another, it would be damaging to the EU to see Britain be better off outside (which everyone knows is not true...). Mocking the EU for wanting the best for itself when Britain left on the same premise is both hypocritical and comical.

Considering senior Uzk politicians have been comparing the EU to the third Reich I'm not surprised that they're not exactly happy with us.

A defining characteristic of a protection racket is that once you have bought in to the "service" and are receiving the "protection", any attempt to break free will result in immediate threats and maybe physical violence. The racketeer cannot allow the victim to see that they can live without the racket.

And thus we see the European protection racket behaving in the same way. Juncker (who is a violent drunk and one of the major architects of the system of legal European tax avoidance that deprived advanced economies of billions by inducing these companies to legally headquarter themselves in Luxembourg) and German ministers from the SPD (social democrats) have said that the UK must be punished. The EU must make it as uncomfortable as possible for the UK; and they're not even ashamed to admit the reason. They are upfront in saying that it is to deter others from thinking about leaving.

These kinds of comments display the immature and supercilious attitude of people who are extremely insecure in their own beliefs. Is the European Union so flimsy that it has to insult and threaten any country that decides it may not want what the others want? Is there no room in Europe to say, "Thanks for the times we're worked together. We think we need to follow our own path now, but we wish you all the best and would like to stay friends"? Apparently not. You're either joined at the hip with them, or they hate you.

It's also interesting how they say the UK cannot have freedom for goods, services and capital without taking free movement of persons. There is no logical reason why they have to come as a package; all or nothing. Particularly given the EU has been negotiating a free trade agreement in Canada and the agreement on services with a whole range of countries that will allow freedom to trade goods and services without free movement of persons.

The eurocrats are desperately fearful that if Britain gets its way, the people of Europe will see there's no inherent reason why you have to have free movement of persons to have free trade. Thus we get the threats, the hysteria, the one-sided demands (the Slovakian PM spent 20 minutes insulting and threatening Britain, as if we give a crap about that fourth-rate nothing country, and then makes demands on the UK with respect to allowing his citizens who work in the UK to keep working there... the Poles particularly know they couldn't absorb 900,000 unemployed Poles moving home)

Slovakian? Are they even relevent? We'll leave the single market and still be richer than them.

They are relevant to the extent they are a member of the EU and will get to vote on any agreement the EU reaches with the UK. Their level of propserity is irrelevant in that context.

So an irrelevent country now has became a relevent country, their relevent because they'll help to get hard brexit. May isn't soft like Cameron she'll get s*** done.

Its a full member of the EU so it gets a vote and as much as you might whine, it has a role to play. Rget donr have to get hard Brexit but one that protects their interests, just as the UK will be seeking to do. Negotiations involve both parties. You will normally get things done by agreement and comrpomise not by demanding. If you wnat access to the single market , then they can determine the terms and for the moment that includes free movement. Take it or leave it.

Then youll have to see what effect ot will have on 42% of our exports and whether it will be detrimental o our balance of payments. That means jobs and taxes. There is a situation where both sides lose, especually if you wnat to throw a big strop and pretend they dont exist.

Others are free to leave, but they will be treated the same way if their leave campaign also consists of nothing but nationalist, xenophobic populism.

It's so obvious the EU is willing to hurt it's own citizens just to spite Britain, and if it does that, Britain will march on because compared with other Europeans, there is something setting this country apart. This was the first country to have an industrial revolution, the only country to resist the dictators, a country which hasn't been successfuly invaded with nearly 1,000 years, one of the most scientific and intellectually efficient countries in the world. Even the fact we managed to come second in the Olympics is amazing given our size, Britain is a country which slowly and methodically keeps on winning.
