AS Computing help

So there's these two questions that I don' understand :/

1) What is the greatest decimal integer you can represent with
a)4 b)8 c)16 bits?

2)How many different permutations of numbers can you represent with:
a)4 b)8 c)16 d)20 e) 24 bits?

It is urgent, any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance

Not so sure on the first one.

I thought I'd bump the thread by saying a suggestion for no. 2 but you can't take my word for it
I believe you do each bit number to the power of 2 (because binary is base 2).
So for 4 bits, you'd have 2^4 permutations (16 variations)

Oh, thanks and np  so erm for 8 bits it'd be 2^8?

For 1) you can find the answer by the formula ((2^n)-1)

For 2) its just the formula 2^n

:yep:
Best to wait for someone to confirm it though

So for the first one for 4 bits it'd be ((2^4)-1)=(16-1)=15?

Oh, ok yh that confirms it

Thank you so much! :h:
