I don't understand how to do the 2/x bit could anyone explain and help please would be much appreciated

2x=2x1\dfrac{2}{x} = 2x^{-1} and you know how to differentiate xnx^n.

Typo, I presume? You should then get ddx(2x1)=2(1)x11=2x2\frac{d}{dx} (2x^{-1}) = 2(-1)x^{-1-1} = -2x^{-2}.
