Alright. If I may ask, what makes you think that you're qualified to give advice on getting into Oxford? You're in Year 12, you haven't even sat your AS exams yet.

@Someboady is a nice guy, so he won't pull you up on this. However, I've noticed the little digs you've sent towards him. I don't understand how you're in any position to state what goals are realistic or not for another person. Furthermore, if you don't think he's capable of achieving the goals he has set, instead of making subliminal comments just get off this thread.

I am not qualified to give advice on getting to Oxford, but it doesn't mean I can't give advice? It's my opinion, it may be true or not but I say stuff according to what I read.

I know he is a nice guy, maybe you're not. Where have I tried to diminish him or bring him down? I've actually said that he can do it, I want him to.

Why would you risk giving someone incorrect advice? This is someboady's life you're messing with.

What advice would you give to a Year 12 student ?
UPDATE ON MAT prep:
I have successfully completed 2006 paper's Question 1.... yes I think it's known to be an easier paper but it gave me a huge confidence boost as I scored:
36/40 on question 1 in 27 minutes
15/15 on Question 2 in 15 minutes
10/15 on Question 6 in 16 minutes, should've got 15/15 but my mind got muddled in the last part...
I have yet to try question 5 and 7 but I'm hoping I'll score at least 10 on each of those which would give me a high score of around 80!
Which isn't too bad I guess but I am keeping in mind that was probably an easier paper (though it included C3/C4 material)
I have however tried the 2007 paper (all 5 questions) but I didn't mark (hoping to forget it and redo it). That was the first paper I tried.
Unfortunately my internet was down the whole day so i only managed to work in the evening (however I did make notes on the MAT syllabus from the C2 book just to make sure I knew everything! )

EDIT: Having never done anything like the MAT before I'd say I was doing decently well..I'm scoring the same as people who have had experience of doing the UKMT Maths Challenges for years! Fortunately Oxford won't discriminate against my disadvantage (my school didnt let us know about Maths challenges)

How many hours do you study on weekends?
To the other year 12/13s on this thread- just remember A2 is only like 10 months, 6 from after christmas. It's worth the sacrifice of a social life to knuckle down and just work. You'll have a really great, long summer either way. I quit my part time job too in March to focus on my exams. A lot of people i've known since primary school, who were always really smart, always getting good grades, turned 18 and spent year 13 just partying and socialising, fair enough but A level grades can be (not always) a game changer and a lot of them were unfortunately surprised on results day.

How do you know it's incorrect? :colondollar: Only an Admissions Tutor would know. If you're so keen on proving me wrong, why don't you ask Oxford yourself? The MAT test is there for a reason and it holds significance, maybe not as much as STEP for Cambridge applicants, but IT IS SIGNIFICANT. I am only giving reasonable advice, it's @Someboady 's choice whether to take it or not. If it doesn't mean anything to you, why do you care?

Lol I also wanted to ask a similar question, but @Someboady - how many hours per day I'd like to ask?

I'm really confident you can pull this off. However, you need to start working properly from now. Take no days off. Due to how high your goals are, a lot of bitter people will enter this thread and tell you how it's not possible, mainly because they couldn't see themselves doing it.

You have to pick and choose very carefully the advice you takeaway from this thread.

@Gome44

You go to Oxford right ? What this person is aiming for is it possible or not?

Thanks so much! You've motivated me..I only get one shot at this and I've got to make Year 13 count! I appreciate your support dude

99% average lol wow. And you're still going a few marks off the successful boundary! Dam, MAT must also be really hard lol. I think you would stand a good chance, everyone applying should have 4 As or good grades but Oxford has a high GCSE requirement lol. If you want to read maths at uni I don't see why you wouldn't get an offer or interview if they do them with an average of 99% across all Maths modules lol.
