Take all the Xs onto one side and all the numbers onto the other then divide through by the number of Xs you have.

For example 5x + 3 = 2x -15:
- 2x from both sides
3x + 3 = -15
-3 from both sides
3x = -18
Divide both sides by 3
x = -6

7x-2=3x+20 ??

Collect the x's on one side, collect whats leftover on the other side, divide the whats left over on one side by the coefficient (number infront) of x and you should be done.
7x-2=3x+20
Bring all the x terms to one side and all the constant terms to the othermaking sure to changethe signs as you move the term, i.e 7x-3x=20+2 from here on in you just simplify the equation, which will give you 4x=22 and then dividing this by 4 will give you x=22/4
