Physics help - distance and displacement

On Monday: I walk 20m east then 10m west.

On Tuesday: I walk 20m west then 10m east

what were the distance travelled & displacement on (a) Monday and (b) Tuesday?

My answers:

Monday - distance 30m, displacement 10m
Tuesday - distance 30m, displacement -10m

I'm not 100% sure so any help would be appreciated

Thanks alot. I appreciate it. Do you think you can help me with 1 more Q?

(a) I got 1.75m/s
(b) I got 285.7s
(c) I got 257.1m

Well displacement is supposed to have a direction as it is a vector quantity, so for Monday displacement is 10m due North of East and for Tuesday displacement is 10m due North of West hope it helped

Part a you should draw a right angles triangle and solve for the resultant velocity using Pythagoras.

Part B is a simple t=d/v using the resultant velocity calculated in part a.

Part c it asks you to calculate the horizontal distance travelled down the bank and it already gives you the horizontal velocity as the current. So d=vt.

All 3 of your answers I think are correct. Truth be told I haven't done these type of examples in a couple years so was hesitant about c because it took me a while to figure out it was asking for the horizontal distance travelled by the boat.
