My life is boring. No job, no friends.

So a few months ago I was experiencing a high point in my life. It was just the first week of July, the sun is out and I am celebrating about just graduating with a First Class Honours. My family abroad are around and everyday I am going to places or I am sorting out useful things. My holiday to the Americas begin mid July and the fun continues there. I go to a strip club and get a lap dance for the first time in my life and all is so well.

Then comes the end of August. I land back in the UK and with my family. All my uni friends were dead to me the minute I left those uni doors as they chose to ignore me. Days go by and I have missed all the deadlines to work for a top company in 2016. Every day I look for an opportunity I am faced with nothing but disappointment. I eventually help my family run their business everyday. I have no friends and no life whatsoever. Every day is just so so boring and the only fun I have is maybe just going to the gym. Life is dead now.

My uni wasn't the best for social life but I sure as hell miss all those deadlines! Uni gave me a lifeline and a chance. It motivated me and made me live. Now, I wake up really late everyday with nothing to do and no one to speak to except my mother.

I understand how you're feeling to some extent. Isolation is a horrible feeling, but rejection, that's worse. :frown: At least you have your family to talk to? Maybe try some new hobbies out and look for another job? I'm sorry I can't give you great advice, because I'm in a slightly similar situation as you. I hope you feel better soon. :hugs:

Keep applying for graduate jobs. Don't give up.

In the meantime join some local sports clubs or do some volunteering.
You're going to have so many wolf of wall street investment banking obsessed snobs respond to this but just ignore them.

This thread is literally me (minus the strip club part)

I'm in the exact same situation

I wake up and I'm a slave to my mother doing the same mundane tasks every day and I am dead inside

After 5 months of finishing uni my only opportunity is a 2 week placement I start on Monday, which I feel so fortunate to have, but I still feel like a failure for not being able to get a paid job.
You have a first, well done.

You can go about getting friends.
You can go about getting a job.

Its only 2 months ago, come nack and moan if its 2 years +.

It's honestly pathetic how you ALWAYS try to belittle people on these types of threads and downplay their problems like they are nothing.

Like that's what OP want's to hear? How does it help in any way whatsoever?

'your problems are nothing!! people on earth are in worse situations so you are not allowed to feel feelings!! you must delete them!!'

Literally **** off.

I have a question. At what time do you wake up?

Wow thats big of you.

Can ge get more friends?
Is he in a good position to get a job?

Its a mere 2 months and you want to throw in the towel? Giving in at such an early stage and feeling sorry for yourself is worse. Sooner he gets on with it the sooner he will improve his situation.

Btw if you want to slate me, then have some gumption and don't do it anonymously. That's poor.

OP start planning your way out. Make an action plan and start taking a number of steps each week to hit your traget and improve your job search skills plus employability. Two months is a shot amount of time and just as you feel its gone backwards it cna all change for the better. It has more chance of happening faster if you take the steps to make it happen. Be positive you are in a much better position than most to help yourself.

Gym and regular exercise is a good idea, plus some activity where you get to socialise.

Put yourself out there man, we can't help you you have to help yourself. At the gym make some friends, im sure you see the same people all the time? Ask to work in or ask for a spot thats how I make friends at GYM. I used to never get invited to parties and such then when I changed my environment, I was surrounded by better people and have been invited to 2 parties so far.

Look for your oppurtunities like I said WE can't do anything to help you, you have to help yourself.

Sorry for your situation but it has reminded me to stay proactive and look for job opportunities throughout my final year. I don't want to end up like that.
You have a first, so well done for that.

You have to put yourself out there, join clubs out of interest such as a sports club. Join meet up groups online. Join forums out of interest and see if anyone is located near you so you could meet up.

Perhaps try new hobbies.

Good luck with your job search!
Wow I honestly thought life after uni would be much better than that. you have a first class honors which is amazing job prospects should be easy.
your making me consider a aprrenticeship.

Yes people think life after uni is good and I used to be in that position exactly 1 year ago. Let me tell you something, life after uni is so dead especialy if you are unemployed. Sometimes i just wonder why I worked hard for a first class degree
Know how you feel about the uni "friends" abandoning you as bar one person that's what happened to me too.

Most adult friendships are formed out of convenience and once that is removed, most of them disappear. I do miss being around the social group I had, but when I think about it most of them were never proper friends in the first place. There were some who I barely spoke to when we were sober and others who i'd only speak to because we had mutual friends.
1) Shame on you for attending a strip club.

2) First class degrees are a dime a dozen nowadays - they in themselves are not something to boast about. It is all about the work experience and extra curriculars if you want to stand any chance at getting a job.

3) Why on earth did you end up missing all the deadlines for the jobs you wanted you apply for? Finding a job should have been your number one priority, not larking about abroad. Just goes to show how little you must care about your future.
Life's a *****, and then you die, Any Questions?

Do a fun voluntary job like working in a Theatre, just look up theatres on google then contact them for voluntary/ work experience.
I used to do that but i kept it up for 3 years, other volunteers had been there for 10 years as one man was 70 and he stayed that long because it gave him a purpose like still being able to work, meeting new people but best of all seeing all the shows for free. So anyone of any age can do it so sign up on your own, with your mum or with friends. You will love it and even might get a job working there but you can just ask for paid jobs there first as most theatres do train people with no experience but if no vacancies then ask for voluntary.

This will be good for your mum too to help with her confidence and having fun meeting the other volunteers and talking about the shows after wards. Or even getting to meet any famous people performing.
I worked in my local theatre called Millfield Arts Centre and sometimes famous people from Eastenders performed there and Bruce Forsyth came to open it when it was refurbished.
I got to see all the shows like Burlesque, The Counterfeit Stones, musicals, bands on stage, live wrestling, Elvis and Michael Jackson impersonators, singers, talent competitions, famous comedians who were on the tv, etc. It's the most amazing experience because i can not afford to go to the theatre so it was like having a fun night out but for free and it is not even like working, just having fun so if anyone wants to do voluntary jobs do fun jobs like that because really who wants to work for free?
Some shows are not on during the day but the pantomimes are and they are so funny, they even allowed us to watch them rehearsing
It will give you and your mum a new lease of life.
Just try it even just once

I just wish i'd had interesting, spontaneous friends to do it with or family members because then it's more fun to go together and like i said it's more like a fun night out that you do not have to pay for and you can choose to see the same shows and work the same nights if you signed up with friends or family. Some volunteers would let their partners or friends in free but that's not really allowed and there is no space for them to sit if the theatre was fully booked.

Even if your mum says no just keep bugging her to go just once. Most volunteers already had jobs but they still did it and some volunteers did it to get a reference or started off as volunteers then asked for a job and became supervisors, Admin, Reception or worked in the bar. If you want go see free shows everytime you work then don't choose to work in the bar or on box office unless it's a paid job as they don't always get to see the shows free. One girl could not get a job after uni so she applied for a paid job there in the box office which was advertised and she got the job. She stayed 7 months until she eventually found a job working somewhere else as it was not something she really wanted to do

Also You can get a job easily if you sign up with lots of different employment agencies, look them up on google too

This advice is also for the person who wrote this thread or anyone else too
It beats doing nothing and being bored or if people have no friends or crap friends that do not invite you out much then you can meet new one's volunteering. The other volunteers always used to tell me about jobs they heard about like new supermarkets opening up that i never knew about before and other jobs.
It's also something good to talk about in interviews because employers were always impressed and it looks good on your cv because you are doing different things.

Apologies for the delayed response.

It has been a while, and I would like to firstly thank you for providing me with this long answer.

Since I have posted this thread, I have managed to get a job offer from a leading bank. The job role is only for a set time period and it is not really related to my studies - but the pay was decent and close to home - so I took it!

Going to start this job soon, but yeah. The job was through a job agency - but hey we all have to take a cut or a loss sometimes - just hope this job will take me some place further in life!
