Is first year of studying nursing at uni hard?

I've read lots of stuff about nursing students having no free time and not being able to socialise and I was just wondering how true this is for first year?

I know history students for eg have a lot of free time and how would you say that compares for first year nursing students?

I'm currently 7 months into my first year (over half way yayy!!) and to be honest up until now it's been great. We've have a few exams and one essay which wasn't a big one and fairly easy. But now unfortunately we have a mountain of work due within 8 weeks. I also have my second placement next week. So these upcoming weeks are going to be difficult. We have x2 2500 word essays plus 2 a&p exams plus a meds management exam and an osce. All this is due my middle of November. My social life will be none existent at the minute but the positive thing is that is it for year one!! So I'm kind of happy it's all been squashed into October/November. Hope this helps!

the principle issues here are

1. Attendance Monitoring - you MUST attend all timetabled sessions unless you have a good reason not attend ... same as the standards of attendance expected in a job - this is not the University being funny this is a external requirement enshrined in UK and European law

2. placements and shift work

a side show issue is that that some HEIs make no attempt to free timetabling on wednesday Afternoons etc and even if Wednesday afternoon is free there will still be timetabled activity on the waednesday mornign which makes BUSA team particpation etc very much harder
