Why are smokers so inconsiderate to non smokers?

They are always smoking away in public while there are people around. I've breathed in so much smoke this week from them, it's unbelievable and doesn't feel nice. Do smokers not know passive smoking does more damage than smoking? They should smoke at home or away from people. Who agrees?

It's not as bad now as it used to be before the smoking ban.

I think a lot of smokers have a general chip on their shoulder about it. They will think nothing of throwing cigs on the floor and littering, its someone else's problem to clean up because it's a free country and nobody can tell them how to live their lives. Also they feel like they have to observe non-smoking rules in a lot of places so if they are somewhere where they can smoke they are going to and if you don't like it, tough.
