Now that the Open Days have finished, I thought I'd start a new thread for those applying for the BSc Real Estate programme area for Sept 2017 entry. I am happy to respond to questions or advise on issues over the next 9 months as people complete their UCAS forms, receive offers, attend Visit Days (in Feb and March) and wait nervously for their exam results in August. At this stage, I wish everyone the very best of luck and encourage you all to work as hard as possible to get the best grades you can!

Hi,
Our central admissions team usually acknowledge applications quickly and then make offers ASAP (within a week or so, depending on information provided). I've looked at the applications submitted for our 3+1 real estate and planning programme and the first 7 apps are currenty being considered. We received the first of those on 14th Oct, so it's still early days!
With regard to your decision on firming the offers, that really comes down to your preference! I hope that you have researched each of those courses/Uni's and attended the Open days. We are very confident about our planning offer at Reading and the quality of the student experience. However, offer holders have to 'look into their souls' and make their own decision. Best of luck in that.

Yes, property development is a 'natural' pathway for our real estate graduates. To some extent, development is a cross-over between real estate and planning. At Reading we provide for that cross-over with our 3+1 UG programme in Real Estate (x3 yrs) with MSc/Dip in Urban Planning & Development (x1 yr). This is dual qualified (RICS and RTPI) and many of our graduates from that course go to work for development companies (commercial and residential). Employers (across private and public sectors, including those working in regeneration) see the dual qualification as a real bonus. Other universities (e.g. Manchester and UCL) do similar combinations....but Reading was the first!

My name is Coree, I have received an unconditional offer to study Real Estate Bsc at Reading in September 2017. I will be 20 when I start and I completed my A-Levels back in 2015 then went to work. I have now acquired some experience with a property firm which has sparked my interest to study property. I have a few questions in regards to the BSc course at Reading and I was hoping you could help me out. Firstly does the teaching of the undergraduate course take place at the Henley Business School Whiteknights Campus? Secondly how does the 3rd year of study work in regards to the selection of a specialism & optional modules. Also I am very nervous about the prospect of eventually getting a job once I graduate due to the competitive nature of the industry. Does Reading offer help with applications? e.g. psychometric testing, interviews and CV advice. Lastly will there be any visiting days in 2017 as this was not mentioned when I received my offer e-mail. I hope I haven't asked any obvious I look forward to attending Reading come September.

We run a full programme of company talks, visits, mentoring, internships, mock assessment days and 1-to-1 career counselling. That support is reflected in our employability rates which are regularly in the 95-98% zone.
We look forward to seeing you at one of the visit days. This will give you the chance to learn a bit more about the course and other aspects like the careers support and the work of the Reading Real Estate Foundation. Offer holders go for lunch with our current students whilst guests have lunch with staff. We do a walking tour of the campus and finish-up with a Q&A session with some third year students who have experienced the whole programme. The overall objective is to give you and any guests you want to bring along a clear idea of the course and our wider offer and (from our point of view) to secure firm acceptances to our offers.

I could make a stab at most of these questions, but I think it's best if you seek answers from 'the horses mouth' by contacting our UG Admissions Team at [email protected]
The one issue I'm most confident on is the 'quota' for overseas entrants: my indicative target is x20 for 2017 Entry, but this is not cast in stone. We could recruit more or less than this, based on the quality of the applicants.

We are having a series of Visit Days this month for offer-holders. Here are some photos of our people giving talks on the UG Real Estate programmes and the range of support provided by the Department, Henley Careers and the Reading Real Estate Foundation. They also met REP staff and students, undertook a taster project session and received presentations from the support services provided by the University and the Student Union. Look forward to seeing everyone again in September....depending on your A-level results!
