The Student Room Group

I lied, what should I do now!

I matched with this 10/10 girl on Tinder.

And a week later we decided to meet up, initially I didn't think she would look anything like her profile pic, but to my surprise she did.

So I thought what now, she actually looks attractive.

So a few days later she contacts that she wants to meet up again.

Which would be great news if I hadn't lied that man drove a recent Mercedes AMG.

She lives in North London and I live in South West London.

So she wanted to know how we would meet up on the day.

And I hesitated and wanted to impress her on the phone so I said "don't watch that, I'll pick you up in my AMG":smug:.

She seemed surprised that a teen drove an AMG.

But clearly man lied. Especially since I just recently got my license. Now I seem to have gotten myself in a dilemma.

She wants to meet me this Friday.

But what do I do?

I'd turn up in the worst car you can and make out like it was a joke.

Alternatively (if you don't see this lasting long) just hire one.

You have 3 options.

1. Buy an AMG between now and Friday
2. Don't turn up at all.
3. Be honest with her and hope she forgives you.

I think option 3 will be the best option for everyone.

It would really awkward if I drove her around in a used red nissan micra.

And renting is too expensive just for a day. 250 for a days rent.:argh:

Tell her you don't consider your car less than a mercedes

Depends how good looking she is, £250 could be a bargain

Stick an AMG badge on the micra!

Not to offend you, but the three options are not really the best options.
Say I drive an Antisocial Metal Gnat ..

"I don't actually drive a Mercedes AMG, I was doing it to impress you. I hope that we can continue talking to each other as it would be a shame to go this far and stop"

OR

"I sold my car"

"I've given my car to a family member for a couple weeks"

OR

Take the first option and take a toy car out of your pocket and make the situation amusing.

:beard:

The third option seems like a good idea, but I am not 100% sure she'll find it humorous. She may get really angry.

There's going to be consequences from lying whatever you choose to do.

It's online dating, she'll either walk away because if someone's prepared to lie before you've even met, why waste your time on them, or she'll forgive you. The only way to really guarantee she won't be bothered is to buy one. If you can't do that, just man up and tell her.

I'd do it if I were you. If she can't handle the humour then do you really want to continue things with her.

Yes that's true, okay, I'll give it a go. And see her reaction.

I have to find where they sell a toy Mercedes car.

No girl is worth 250 a day, right?

She's attractive, but not 250 attractive.

Your idea might make me bankrupt.

That's what I was thinking yesterday, I should probably feel slighted that she's meeting me for my imaginary Mercedes AMG.

why did you even lie?

if you got her from Tinder obviously she liked you for your looks and was sufficiently attracted already.

There's a possibility now you won't be able to recover this "lie" and have f**ked up a good thing.
The best way you could handle this is somehow making it into a hilarious joke. That way either she's cool wid it or you inadvertently get rid of a boring hyper-materialistic girl anyway. win win

You can hire decent escorts for that sort of money and they won't care what car you drive.
