Assuming Globalisation comes up for an 18/33 marker, what other topics would you include? Could you include theories such as Marxists, Functionalists and Weber? I don't think I could write enough on Globalisation alone! (including cultural defence/fundamentalism)

I would mention Feminism in the global context as You could talk about Islam and the Veil for women , You could even talk about women becoming part of the Church which is an improvement for women. As long as you apply it to globalisation i think you can write it.
You could aslo mention how religion can do well hand in hand with gobalisation for example : Hinduism and the Confucian Values are almost like the prostestant work ethics , their new found success is based on their religion and thus you could argue that its become more popular as 85% are Hindus and when asked they felt their religion was more superior.
This is also the same with Latin America and Pentecostalism , which places more demands on Ascetic lifestyle and has encourged a upwardly mobile society to grow.
Perhaps you could even say that the idea the world has becme a global village has created somewhat a market for spiritual shopping etc and even the idea of David Lyons 'Jesus in Disney Land' .
So you can talk about the Positive and Negatives of Globalisation , in one hand you have popularity and in one hand you have extreme values like fundamentalism.

If feminism comes up, do you think it could come up as a 33 marker? In the book there's like, a page on it, which is rather short :/

That's true. I don't think it could come up at a 33 marker either - there's not enough to write about (IMO, anyway)

Hopefully this exam goes well.

Might be an 18?

Can say how women attend more because -
Passive socialisation
Socialisation of children role
More time on their hands
Davie - Women's greater connection to life and death
Bruce and Aldridge - Women and the New Age Movement - The Goddess image

Then go on about how they are marginalised in faith as a contrast -
Hold and Armstrong - Catholic and Muslim marginalisation
El Saadawi - Patriarchal societies use religion

And then contrast it with -
Woodhead - Feminists have it wrong. Religion helps women.
Brierley - Women are attending church less now
Women form sects - Christian Science and then link to Weber's Theodicy of Disprivilage
20% of COE clergy are women.

Then if you have time you could have a mini discussion of whether the gender line is relevant anymore or not and that ethnicity, class and age might be a better way to measure religiosity.

A June 2010 33 marker question was "Evaluate feminist views on the role and functions of religion in society today". I'm not entirely sure how that would go myself, doesn't really cross over to many more topics...

Just took a look at the paper now - damn! 2010's fairly recent though, so it's unlikely to come up as a 33 marker AGAIN..

Functionalist view of religion came up in 2012 I think, so that just leaves Marxism, which I doubt we would get so soon after... Shouldn't get anything that focusses on the first section I should hope (though Marxism would be pretty fine anyways)

any guesses on the 33 marker??

my teacher says that ideology and science have a good chance as well as globalisation or the postmodern, renewal chapter

Yeah, I'd be pretty chuffed if we got an essay on Marxism to be honest! Perhaps it won't be a theory then...Do you think postmodernist views could come up as a 33 marker? :s-smilie:

Maybe not as spirtual revolution (Lyon?) came up in January? If they do they'll disguise it as diversity and choice or something similar.

New Religious Movements came up in June 2011 and Jan 2012, would that go under postmod?

I was really hoping for globalization, but after June 2011's "Assess the view that secularisation has been a feature only of modern European societies", could we get it again? That was a fantastic question

Well I meant something like "Assess the usefulness of postmodern theories in understanding religion today", but in hindsight, since postmodernism is so interlinked with secularisation, that is probably very unlikely to come up.

All secularisation questions are fantastic :frown: I think secularisation is unlikely to be honest. Religion is a global context usually seems to come up in various questions like conflict etc which hasn't come up for a while...so maybe?

I have heard mentions of science coming up. Last seen in June 2010 with "Assess the view that science has replaced religion as the main ideological influence in society today".
After typing that out, doesn't seem so bad as I had thought. Really just a kind-of secularisation essay with science as the main focus?

I haven't even looked at the science part of the textbook :/ although yes, I think I'd use secularisation arguments to show that religion has declined.

I suppose science would be an okay question. The questions I really despise are those really vague ones about social groups.

June 2011 "Assess the view that new religious movements are mainly for the middle classes and the young". That doesn't sound very fun, probably the one past paper question I do hate

I can't see this paper being too bad in the end now that I look over these... Paper 2 is the one I'm really dreading!

Those are the sort of questions I don't like. Do you mean the crime & deviance paper? I'm dreading both :frown: although I enjoy C&D far more. The 33 marker could potentially be very tricky though.

Finally after ages of searching ie found this thread... I've revised functionalism, Marxism, feminism, church, sect, denominations and cults, NRMs and nearly finished NAS... Need to do the globalisation thingy, secularisation, religious fundamentalism and ... The ideology religion and science stuff but il have to do all that on Monday coz I have psychology to revise for... I was wondering if anybody has any predictions on what might be comin up as it would make my revision much much easier !
