Edexcel Business Studies Exam - Unit 3: International Business - 10th June 2011

Hello!

Thought I'd make a thread for anyone who did the International Business exam today,
How did you find it?!

I thought it was tricky. The first few questions were horrible and none of the topics I had really revised in depth came up :frown:
I also failed with my time management :frown:

What grade do you reckon you got? Any thoughts on grade boundaries?

I completely agree with you! I didn't think those topics were big enough for 12/15 mark questions, I couldn't check my paper and didn't even finish some answers properly. Probably evaluated nothing and will do even worse than last time :frown: not looking forward to unit 4b now!

i finished pretty weird...
do u know whether writing more than the lines provided actually get read?

yeah they do dont worry but my teacher told me to ask for extra paper so that it gets marked by one of the higher up examiners. last time mine was scanned and the marking was very harsh imo :P

I agree!! It was very difficult to stretch out the answers, I repeated myself far too much and I honestly have no idea if I got any evaluation in or not

Don't worry tajmahal , I'm fairly sure they scan the whole page
I put planning stuff underneath all the writing lines in the hope they'd see it and I might pick up a few extra marks

Never mind. I'm going to completley fail Unit 4B. I'm only going to get one weekend to learn it all

yeah same one weekend of cramming! and cramming what? the whole of the broadcasting industry?! it's the most ridiculous exam ever and 1 past paper. the whole thing is just gonna be one big surprise...

What was up with the pricing strategies question? That isn't even part of the specification for Unit 3, thats unit 2...

There was a tiny part of the specification in it, about the Marketing Mix in relation to international business, but I agree with you tajmahal , as an 8 mark question it was just a bit much.

I also really struggled with Question 2, "how does the expansion of the ASEAN affect UK business" What did you guys put for that? I really struggled! :frown:

and Bruno, what is your Unit 4B question on? Mines all about Morrisons. It's so vague and difficult to revise for

I wrote about how it will be cheaper for UK business, as the ASEAN trading BLOC may attempt to compete with each other and therefore prices may drop. I also wrote about how the quality of products supplied may increase due to specialisation (I looked at the next question and took the idea haha)

A* A B C D E N U
56 52 48 44 40 36 32 0 <-- Those were the Jan 11 Grade Boundaries

But, I thought this paper was easier than the Jan 11 paper, but thats personal opinion, so I suspect they will be roughly the same, or +- 1 mark.

Interesting, I said that the UK will struggle due to the increased competition, as they won't be able to compete with the increased productivity and economies of scale etc. etc.

Bad question agreed.
I only looked over the Jan 2011 papers and June 2010 papers. Thought it was harder than June but easier than January

Boundaries will probably stay the same, about 58/80 for A*, 53/80 for an A.

The unit 4b im doing is on broadcasting :| i've attempted one 20 mark question so far - evaluating is not a strong point of mine anyway! Half the textbook is about transport and the environment, none of which can be applied to our case study so I'm relly strugglin. Luckily i only need a d to get an a overall but i'm doubting my ability to even get that!

wow, thank you! That looks really helpful

I got given a 96 page booklet from my teacher which was full of all the possible questions they could ask us and the answers to it. No idea what its called but it might be worth asking your teacher if they know anything about it
