typical offer for 2011 was ABB, iv heard that stronger applicants got offered BBB and weaker applicants got AAB.

gcse results are important, however, i dont think this course looks at it that much since this course is edging towards the less academic side at UCL, as long as they are respectable and u have a C in Maths and Eng Lan, then u should be ok
personally i got 1A*3A5B2C which is just average

there are 70 places in total, and im guessing the course will be quite popular due to the change in grade requirments. However, is still not as popular as courses such as economics, medicine etc.

im guessing there are generally a high demand for international students since it is University of London and I am a international student myself.

I hope this helps.

If any applicants have any burning questions about the course, feel free to quote me here and post the questions and I'll do my best (I'd prefer that to being messaged as others may have the same questions and I don't want to answer the same questions 200 times via messages)

Pretty much everyone was offered ABB for the past 2-3 years. The course was massively over-subscribed though.
I don't expect the AAB offer to change that, that much.
You don't need fantastic GCSE's but it would help.

Basically its the best course at the best university

Hey, I have heard that the application ratio there is like 9:1, so theres a lot of people applying, but not as much as other courses though.

In case anyone is interested, I've recieved a conditional offer for this. I'm doing the IB in Sweden, sent in my application 21st September. The offer is 36 points, with 17 in HL's, and I can't fail A1 English.

36 points with 17 in HL's is the standard offer listed on the website, so I assume it's equivalent to AAB.

Thanks  I didn't do GSCE's, I did a different program.

My predicted grades were 43 points with 20 in HL's, so I exceeded the offer by quite a bit. I don't know how to translate that into A-Levels, sorry, but 45 points is max.

That's amazing! I'm doing something harder than alevel or ib ,the cambridge pre-u diploma, I'm predicted only D3(A) M1(a/B) M1(a/B) ,ucls website says the need d3 d3 m1 but ucas says d3 m1 m1 so I'm unsure:s I'm hoping my personal statement is strong enough, what did u say you did in ur personal statement?

Hello! Sorry if those questions were answered before. Here's what I want to know:

1) How is the teaching like? I know, we're talking about UCL, but, for example, I read some bad things about the SSEES department.

2) Career opportunities? What most IM for Business students do after they graduate? Did you decide what do you want to do?

3) Is the location of the lectures etc. ok (department: Management, faculty: Engineering)? I also ask this because I read that the SSEES department is kinda isolated by the rest of the university.

4) How much do you have to work to finish with a 2:1 or a 1st?

5) Describe the degree structure in a few words. (yes, I already read it on UCL website, but I want more opinions)

By the way, considering to apply for 2013 entry.

i'm not applying but i'm curious, what exactly do you learn in the course? been told it's bit of a 'soft' degree.

what kind of jobs do the graduates of this course do. what spring weeks/summer internships at IBs did you get? (seeing you seem to post quite often in the IB forum)

1) I cant comment too much on SSEES as I've never been taught there. Overall the quality is very good. We have some lecturers who are better than others, but I guess that's the case anywhere. Overall its a high standard as you would expect from UCL.

2) I would say this is the best thing about IMB. You have literally very few limitations. A number of people go into finance and Investment banking, a number also go into consultancy both strategic and technological, a number go into general management positions and a number also work in the technology industry in more tech focussed jobs, equally there are opportunities for law conversions and just about anything else you can think of. A huge number of companies actively sponsor the degree (Look up ITMB on Google).

Personally I'm looking to go into finance and more specifically S&T at an investment bank but the opportunities really are huge here.

3) The lectures are generally in the management/engineering. Occasionally we have lectures in other places but its no big deal, its never far to go and certainly not isolated.

4) There is no real answer to this. I would say quite a bit of work has to be done to get a 1st/2.1 its not impossible and if your clever enough to get onto the course you are capable of a 1st but its not easy.

5) Degree structure? Its varied with Business, Finance and Technology and a mixture of the three. In your second and third years you can use optional module(s) to make the degree more focussed on your individual interests.

If you have any more questions or want clarification on anything, feel free to ask.

It depends how you define "soft". I think the only reason its been associated with such a term is that its not a specialist degree in the sense you don't just study one thing. Its a mix of computer science, finance and business.

For example this year I'm learning advanced programming, statistics, software engineering, financial computing and e-business management amongst other modules.

As I mentioned in the post above the range of jobs people have gone onto do is pretty huge. From IB to consultancy, from tech to law and everything in between.

Me personally? I was interviewed by Deutsche, Barcap and ICAP and ended up with a SW at Barcap. I did a summer internship in Beijing at Private Equity firm.

I have friends on the course that had interviews/SW's/Summers at Credit Suisse, Goldman, Deutsche and RBS, amongst others.

Obviously its not the number one course for getting into IB. The level of maths required in economics and physics etc is far higher. However the conception its a soft degree and not suitable for IB is just incorrect, its quite easily do-able.

If you have any other questions on the course just let me know and I'll do my best to answer.
