Default How would a vegetarian react to this situation ?

I was watching Ali G on youtube and he was having a conversation with a vegetarian guy and asking him if he would ever eat an animal e.g chicken, beef and as usual the guy said no then Ali G asked what he would do in this situation..

"Here's a chicken, you either eat this or else we'll kill another chicken

I thought it was actually a valid question
What would a vegetarian do in this kind of situation?

i hate herbivores, but how would you react to "here's a corpse. you either eat this or we'll kill another human"?

p.s. i recognise that human >> chicken, but it's the same principle (i think).

there is a gap in responsibility. The vegetarian is not causing the other chicken to be killed. If other people are doing that that's their business. Quite frankly if someone told me that was going to happen I'd tell them to shove it.

I could never be a veggie, so my instinct would tell me to eat it. Or I'll let him kill 2 more, get him to cut up all 3, eat a little of one and put the rest in my freezer

Kill as many chickens as you like. I've not eaten enough to reduce demand enough to make up for it over 14 years. But I'm not going to eat the flesh of another animal because that's disgusting and selfish. I'm also not going to effectively "buy into" the meat trade. I don't want a chicken's proteins making up my body kthanx.

Edit: I also don't think humans are automatically > chickens. A life is a life to me, meh.

ok, if i was to ever choose between saving you or a cockroach, i'd take the cockroach since both your lives are equal but it's easier to carry.

not a veggie but if i was i would not eat it. either way 1 chicken will die, but by eating one i have killed it for my own consumption. on the other hand, i let the other chicken die hence not eating a chicken which is the original idea.(it made sense in my head.lol)
but it depends on why your a veggie in the first place.

Haha, fine with me. I really don't care.
I love when people bring up the 'vegetarian debate' it always turns into something like "if you had to choose between saving a human's life and a ___'s life?" xD it's completely and utterly irrelevant, because that would never happen.

I'm vegetarian for many reasons, but at the end of the day, it's good for me health wise (scientifically proven that we live longer, have less heart disease etc etc etc), good for the animals and good for the planet so I cba to start eating something that makes me gag after 14 years of not eating it and being perfectly happy.

Depends on the reason you're not eating it... some people don't like it, and some people do it because of morals.

Oh and my main reason nowadays is that I don't believe you should eat something if you would not be able to kill one if faced with the opportunity. I couldn't kill a lamb or a chicken or a cow, so I don't think it's right to ignorantly tuck into their flesh. If you could honestly kill an animal, then fine go ahead and eat them.
