Fair enough you have a job to do but it's so annoying, i believe they only do it to just to look like there good at what they do.

Make your hands into a gun, start humming the mission impossible theme tune and run around the shop ducking and diving between shelves.

Or this.

This is starting to piss me off. Walk into a shop and seeing security watching you like you're a criminal. Staff members asking you in turn if you're ok and just standing there with nothing to do watching you browse. It's so uncomfortable. Anyone else starting to get pissed off with this form of non-physical mental rape?

They are not forcing you so it is not coercion. Are you black or non-white? That might explain something.

A week ago I had had a guy watch me when I'd misplaced £3 in a shop (was in my laptop bag, I'm very badly organised) and I was going through my pockets as I had no other money, I was also trying to decide what beer to try, about 10 I'd not tried. Anyway after about 7 minutes I picked up the most expensive beer on the shelf, passed the security guard, glared at him and watched him follow me to the checkout turned round and said "Don't worry mate, I'd lost some money" and he followed me out the shop.

Tosser.

You were in a shop and had no money. He had reasons to stalk you.
I'd got my card on me, so I still had money and a few quid in change, I just wanted to know where I'd put the £3 I'd got for that particular purchase.

why am i getting negged. the security guy was black too.

I have actually noticed that the black security guards are by far the most racist. They see a black kid walk in and they just latch onto them. Maybe it's because white people are more conscious about looking like a racist but black people arent. This even extends to school aswell. i remember the black teachers were always the ones expecting me to be a troublemaker. Once in drama lesson we got this new teacher and first thing he says to me is "hey rudeboy" and singled me out as a troublemaker for he rest of the day.

This happened to me in Waitrose the other day. I wasn't that bothered. I have only been in there a couple of times and I don't look like a typical customer. If the security guard wants to follow me around then fine - that's him making his job easier.
I don't even mind it tbh, I just ignore them and get on with my shopping. They're just doing their job. And if you've got nothing to hide you've got nothing to fear, right?

It's a little off putting, but it's their job.

As someone who works in retail I can sympathise with anyone who is over vigilant. Because when stock is down it's us that get's in the ****, not the customers.

happens to me too !!

I find the best thing to do especially in a supermarket is to get a basket in one hand and then a shopping list in the other, they won't bother you then

Just tell them to go away. I had one in B&Q follow me then accuse me of stealing some safety goggles worth a couple of quid. Bare in mind I had a hundred quid or so of stuff in my trolley.

You're black?? Hehe, for some I didn't think you were. Then again, I normally assume TSR people are white unless they make it obvious otherwise :o:

:emo: I get this so many times.
Standard procedure really especially when you're in trackies or whatever, the small Tesco near school is the worst cause they think anyone under 18 is a thief
What you get in this country is absolutely nothing compared with what happens in Asia and (from what I've heard, though I haven't actually been there yet) the Middle East. I loved Asia, but the constantly being followed round shops did get on my nerves rather. In fact, tbh on several occasions it put me off going inside in the first place.

yup I find that incredibly annoying.

I can't concentrate with them constantly staring and then as soon as I pick up a product it's like 'do you need any help today? *cheesy grin*'.. NO I DO NOT NEED HELP I WAS JUST LOOKING!

and those people in shoe shops.. eurghh.. you say 'can I have a size 8 shoe please?' and then they go and get it and then continue to stand and watch you while you try the shoe on. I WANT TO TRY MY SHOES ON IN PEACE.

why does it matter if he's black or white or pink or turqouise , god just appreciate everyone will you!
If you're that paranoid, you don't want to think about the CCTV that is watching your every move not only inside the store but on the street outside.

I never feel watched but then I'm a bit older and usually if I go in a shop I'm either on my own or with one other person, young people in groups are the worst for stealing things mainly because a lot don't really see it as a problem, they say the company makes loads of profits so they are entitled to nab a bit here and there, places like Boots get riddled with small scale theft.

The joke is I bet those same petty thief students would get all outraged if someone slipped their hand in their pocket and nabbed their wallet while they were going through the store.

Funnily enough I've started doing that. I was in Debenhams and it suddenly occurred to me that security men are probably watching me on CCTV right now and looking at my awkward ways. I looked up to the cam. **** man, I play up to it. Not good.
So glad i found this thread! i remember when i was younger and it was cool to shop in claire's accessories.. That was the worst place for being watched, they would like stand behind you and watch everything you did and they even had mirrors by the ceiling to check what you were doing from behind!

I work in a large store specialising in arts and crafts and we get a huge number of thefts. The people that steal stuff are usually kids in tracksuits or shifty looking people in tracksuits... If you walk into the shop wearing a tracksuit, looking shifty (generally wandering around looking at the high value items or fiddling with the paint brushes) then yes i will follow you, yes i will radio my manager and yes i will radio the centre security to see if any other shops have reported anything suspicious. It's my job, I do my job and sadly that's just the way things are. I won't say anything about thefts to you, i usually ask "Do you need any help there?" as I do with all customers, depending on the way you react i'll leave you alone or continue to keep my eye on you....
