Thank you :o) English Literature and Philosophy . Yay, I see you will be taking English, too! You will be taking the same module as me in the first term, then.
Everyone seems to love History - the lecturers are really popular.

exciting! Yup I'm History and English. How does it work doing Joint Honours - do the modules/essays etc work out, or are you having to constantly remind people that you are doing TWO subjects? I do philosophy now btw, and it's brilliant isn't it!

Well, with English and Philosophy - All English in the first term, all philosophy in the second and I'm not entirely sure what happens in the third term (perhaps a bit of both?) It varies depending on the subject, but I think your combo will be similar to mine. Um, I was with one tutor group in the first term and then I went into another tutor group in the second (most were philosophy students but there were a few English and philo, maths and philo combos - so you're not the only one meeting/seeing new people!) Everyone is in the same boat, as you change tutor group every term. People usually ask what you're doing, but some people assume you are a single honours student! It isn't complicated, so don't worry about it too much. I had to do four essays for English in the first term and four essays for philosophy in the second (though I haven't done them, 'cause I've more or less left now.) And there is usually work set each week by your tutor (who you see twice a week) You probably won't have much contact time - mine is something ridiculous like 6 hours a week (other people have 20 - subjects vary dramatically). English, philosophy, history students etc. have to do a lot of independent reading, research, essay-writing etc. so you have to be quite strict. It's so easy not to do anything all day but it does pile up if you leave it to the last minute. They say five hours of work a day, but I don't think anyone does this much! You don't need to stress much in the first year :o) /ramble!

To cut a long and complicated story short: I struggled as there is stuff going on at home and I'm not in a position to study at the moment. So I'm taking Leave of Absence and I hope to start over in October. It's going to be weird going back but I really want to. I have the advantage of being able to learn from my mistakes (and let me tell you, there are many) and I'm going to see starting over as an opportunity to make the most of the opportunities available at uni (and there are lots!). So, yeah, can I join the York firmers thread? Even though I already have a place guaranteed? I'm happy to answer any questions.
Consider yourself one of us. Just more popular, cos everyone'll want to know what it's like being in York.

ramble is good - the more information the merrier!
so you do each subject one at a time, not running consecutively? Is that how it works?
Re: Official Uni of York Firmers Thread (2009 entry)
That's what I've been doing with English and Philo, emily. Though I have a feeling you study both consecutively in the third term. It might be different for your combination.

When you say English, do you mean Literature or Linguistics? It's just for the purposes of making the list in the first post neat. Thanks.
