Just something to think about, as I don't think UCL/St A'S would accept an application for you next year..considering they gave you an offer this year and you refused it. (If you actually do this obviously)
Yes I've considered it (which is why I might not go ahead with it, OR apply during my first year). Universities don't bear grudges, and I also have a personal reason as to why I might have to take a year out anyway (my Mum has MS). Of course, I won't really expect an offer from them next year, but, as I said above, post-A2 applicants have the leeway to apply to top places based on their A level grades - LSE, KCL, Warwick, York, Edinburgh etc. - which would all be as suitable. And for UCL, there's a questionnaire which I could write even better answers to next year.

Well, you seem to know more than I do. I only heard that, when browsing unis on the internet, Manchester said they refuse reapplicants for the same course. So I guessed that others might do too.
I hope you don't have to take a year out and I wish your Mum well!

Of course it all depends on me getting three As (and a Merit/Distinction in my AEA as a decider). I don't know if that will happen anyway. I'm confident about getting AAB at least but in Geo I need 80% across all of my final exams.

The more I read about Cambridge, the city as well as the uni, the more desperate I am to get in...have no idea about which college though...I've only managed to cut out about half a dozen...and all for stupid reasons!....
I'm scared I'll get my heart too badly set on Cambridge and then not get in and then be sad and miserable wherever I go...

I don't think you should focus on applying in your first year because I remember reasind somewhere that this is not possible for Oxford and Cambridge although I may be wrong.
If you do end up taking a gap year for personal reasons and decide to apply to some of the same unis as the last time then email or call the unis and let them know that your gap year was because of personal reasons.

You're not wrong, Cambridge only accepts transfer students on very exceptional circumstances... Hence they do not accept students transferring just because they fancy it, or wish to have a try... and so forth...

Well, as far as my story goes, I had a Mechanical Engineering offer from the following institutions last year:
University of Bath
University of Southampton
Imperial College
I emailed them last year whilst still holding the offers and asked them whether they would still make me an offer if I reapplied... and eventually most of them replied yes, (don't think I got an answer from Imperial).
This year when I reapplied, Imperial gave me an offer, although I have to say, I applied for a different subject this year at Imperial... but still they shouldn't have any problems with it if you can give them a valid reason

Is it right that Gonville & Caius is pronounced "Gonville & Keys"? It'd be extremely embarrassing to go up for interview thinking it was "Gonville & Kyuss"

Hmm...yes, but if I told them it was for personal reasons then a) wouldn't they ask what exactly it was? and b) wouldn't they just offer to defer my place (thus stopping me UCASing)?

Are you all in year 12? If so then what're you doing on a thread like this. Enjoy the rest of your year, I only bothered with uni's during the summer...
