I love the look of Roehampton, hopefully doing Criminology there. How close is it to the centre of London, close enough that everything costs about 4 times more than the rest of the country, or is it slightly further out?

Hi,
I go to Roehampton, am in my thrid year. The centre of London isn't too far depending on where you want to go but people do go there for nights out. There are 24 hour night buses or a full taxi is about £7 each and takes 40 minutes or so from the Leicester Square area. In the day it's easier as you have tubes, trains and more buses.
The accommodation prices are on the website and I've found living out to be a similar price for the year, even with bills and a 12 month rental period.
The student union offer cheap nights out: http://roehamptonstudent.com/content/752323/. The surrounding area can be a little bit more pricey but I'm from the south anyway so don't notice too much difference!
Hope this helps.
Let me know if you have any more questions!

I have never heard of it!

I will use my internets ... wtf! its 97th according to the guardian 2012 league table . Cant you go anywhere else, its quite a challenge going to a worse place!

What are you planning to study?

The Guardian's league tables are rubbish, the complete university guide's one is far better as they work with The Independent to get their info. Roehampton is 73 on that one.
i loved roehampton when i went for the open day, im doing the Ba Dance degree. Its between either there or middlesex for me.

Roehampton is far better for dance, it's definitely one of the uni's strong points

I've just graduated from the course  Loved it; the lecturers are very supportive and knowledgeable, the modules are interesting and useful (especially in 2nd and 3rd year where you get to choose) and the facilities are great. There are lots of oppertunities to get involved with the dance society/Jazz Hands student show/MA and 3rd year practical dissertations, plus you're close to central London so can get to The Place/Sadlers Wells etc easily.

Hi,
I go to Roehampton and my flat mate is in 3rd year doing Dance and really enjoy it.
It seems to have a great reputation at Roehampton and is not a vocational course so opens up more of a variety of career opportunities. She tells me that on a practical level, there's lots of different techniques covered and something for everyone. There's also the Dance Society which offers extra curricular classes which means professional company workshops and performances.
Hope this is helpful.
Let me know if you have any questions about the Uni.
Thanks guys, that has really helped! Fingers crossed I get an audition now at Roe. Hope theres some more lads that audition too!
What would you say the best accommodation is? I looked around Aspen which was really nice, but i also got told Digby is really good too.
Im quite a party go-er, so whats the nightlife like?
Is Business Entrepreneurship a new Undergraduate course?

I've only seen the Whitelands accommodation but it's really nice, so check that one out too. Plus, there's loads of shops next to Whitelands whereas the rest of the uni have to walk 10 mins to the shops whenever they need something. The night life seems really good; there's weekly fancy dress club nights, and the uni provides a free bus service to the clubs in Kingston...I don't go clubbing so I don't know much about the rest of the night life, but I'm sure there's a lot more.

I applied to it for biomedical science and got a conditional offer too. I have visited it and it wasn't my favourite place.... had no other options but to apply to it.

I'm in my 2nd year of biomedical science at Roehampton and I love it; the lecturers are really helpful, the facilities are good, and the content is really interesting. I'm glad I chose Roehampton as it's really improving and making a name for itself, but at the end of the day is it really wise for you to apply to a uni you don't really like? You DO have other options; if you got rejected from all your other choices, you can take a year out to reapply and get into a uni which you do like. After all, you'll be spending a lot of money on the degree so you might as well make sure you're paying for something which you think is worth it.

It's up to what you prefer. Some people want an ensuite and so don't mind that it's more expensive. I lived in Aspen in my first year and loved it. I would say Froebel tends to be quieter than Digby though as lots of people do Primary Education and have placements. Overall, wherever you are, I'm sure you'll make friends and meet people with similar interests.
In terms of the night life, Central isn't too far to go out and there are night buses or you can get a taxi. Students also like to go to Putney, Clapham, Kingston and Richmond for evenings out. You should check out the RSU website for more details of what they offer: http://roehamptonstudent.com/.
Hope this helps!

Hi,
I currently go to Roehampton Uni and study Primary Education, am in my third year now.

I think when looking for Universities, people can get hung up on League Tables instead of looking at somewhere and deciding whether they're going to have a good experience there, be inspired and get a good degree. There is an Open Day this Saturday (8th) if you want to look around campus, accommodation and find out about the University, course and department you're interested in.

Hi, I'm hoping to do Primary education (English specialism) at Roehampton. I've had my interview and just waiting to hear from them now.
How have you found the course?

Hey,
I love it but it's hard work, especially when you get to third year, I feel like it's non stop but you get a career as well as a degree and you get a lot of time in school which is where you want to be.
The lecture classes are quite small; only about 20 so you get to know people well and it's very interactive. They often do examples of primary classroom activities with you as well to discuss and think about which is great fun-last week we were making clay sculptures in Art!
There aren't really many exams which most people find good! Assignments are a mix of analysing children's work, theory and designing half term subject plans which you then justify.
They find you your placements and try to give you a range of experience. Don't worry, it's gradual-in fist year you work mostly with small groups for 15 minutes at a time and it builds from there. You have a University tutor who visits once a week to support you as well as the teacher in school.
Most people find the specialism great as well as you can do more of the subject you are most passionate about and it's a good thing to offer once you're qualified as not many initial teacher training courses offer it.
Good luck, hope you get a place!
Let me know if there's anything else specific you want to know.

Thank you, really appreciate that!
When I went for the interview, they said that we're expected to be on site monday-friday, roughly 9am-6pm. Is that true? Thanks.

You're welcome.
Your timetable will vary from term to term, and year to year. My timetable is pretty busy in third year and some days I have been in all day but it won't be Mon-Fri, 9-6 (Obviously placement is 8-5 Mon-Fri though). You need to be free during those times as you can't afford to miss lectures on the course unless you have a very good reason and your timetable will change regularly. Also, say you have 10 hours contact time one week, you will need to have a lot of other time for assignments, readings, directed tasks etc. Most of the time I've had a full day and a half off at least but it's luck of the draw-some groups are in for less time every day whereas others are in less days but for longer.
Hope that answers your question...
