anyone going Roehampton Uni 2012 ?

I love the look of Roehampton, hopefully doing Criminology there. How close is it to the centre of London, close enough that everything costs about 4 times more than the rest of the country, or is it slightly further out?

I will use my internets ... wtf! its 97th according to the guardian 2012 league table . Cant you go anywhere else, its quite a challenge going to a worse place!

I applied to it for biomedical science and got a conditional offer too. I have visited it and it wasn't my favourite place.... had no other options but to apply to it.

I currently go to Roehampton Uni and study Primary Education, am in my third year now.

I think when looking for Universities, people can get hung up on League Tables instead of looking at somewhere and deciding whether they're going to have a good experience there, be inspired and get a good degree. There is an Open Day this Saturday (8th) if you want to look around campus, accommodation and find out about the University, course and department you're interested in.

Hi, I'm hoping to do Primary education (English specialism) at Roehampton. I've had my interview and just waiting to hear from them now.
How have you found the course?

Hey,
I love it but it's hard work, especially when you get to third year, I feel like it's non stop but you get a career as well as a degree and you get a lot of time in school which is where you want to be.
The lecture classes are quite small; only about 20 so you get to know people well and it's very interactive. They often do examples of primary classroom activities with you as well to discuss and think about which is great fun-last week we were making clay sculptures in Art!
There aren't really many exams which most people find good! Assignments are a mix of analysing children's work, theory and designing half term subject plans which you then justify.
They find you your placements and try to give you a range of experience. Don't worry, it's gradual-in fist year you work mostly with small groups for 15 minutes at a time and it builds from there. You have a University tutor who visits once a week to support you as well as the teacher in school.
Most people find the specialism great as well as you can do more of the subject you are most passionate about and it's a good thing to offer once you're qualified as not many initial teacher training courses offer it.

When I went for the interview, they said that we're expected to be on site monday-friday, roughly 9am-6pm. Is that true? Thanks.

You're welcome.
Your timetable will vary from term to term, and year to year. My timetable is pretty busy in third year and some days I have been in all day but it won't be Mon-Fri, 9-6 (Obviously placement is 8-5 Mon-Fri though). You need to be free during those times as you can't afford to miss lectures on the course unless you have a very good reason and your timetable will change regularly. Also, say you have 10 hours contact time one week, you will need to have a lot of other time for assignments, readings, directed tasks etc. Most of the time I've had a full day and a half off at least but it's luck of the draw-some groups are in for less time every day whereas others are in less days but for longer.
