Are Europeans jealous of American wealth?

I've only lived in Europe for a year due to my mother's stupid job, but on a recent trip to Monaco, I noticed how desperate people were to display their 'wealth'. All of the women were wearing fur coats, and the men thought they were all it because they wore Rolex watches. I was in the mood for a burger and bought one from a street vendor, and he proceeded to get a plate with a knife and fork and serve it under a sun-umbrella. I was enjoying it until I saw the bill and it was 15 euros for the burger and a bit of salad. It just struck me as so pretensious and ostentatious. To me, as an American, I've always been used to being surrounded by wealth but not having to brag about it like Europeans do. I suppose this is the reason that Monte Carlans were desperate to show off; to kid themselves that they have life as we do in the States. Do you agree?

Wealth? What wealth? :curious:
My God no. Monte Carlo is by no means the same as the rest of Europe, in the same way that Las Vegas isn't the same as the rest of America. And Europeans are not jealous of America, we just hate them for being stupid, fat, rude, and having little realisation of the world around them, which goes as far as 'all Muslims are terrorists'. The arogance that you are displaying in your post is another reason.

I think the average standard of living is higher in western Europe than in most of USA.

Monte Carlo supposed to be like the average redneck town in USA ? Seriously.... It's like going to Beverly Hills and saying that those people show off.

Seriously this.

If I went to Alabama or Georgia for a few days, I wouldn't be able to generalise about what all Americans are like. Even worse in the case of Europe as we are even more heterogeneous.

Wow, you're guilty of everything you supposedly "hate" about Americans - add to that your ignorance in using moronic stereotypes, you're actually worse

No one hates anyone - i.e. Americans don't hate Europeans, and vice versa. You just get a small number of idiots (like this poster above) who do hate on another, but they are definitely the minority. Speak to an ordinary American and they won't think of Europe as some socialist hell-hole and likewise, speak to an ordinary European and they'll tell you Americans aren't arrogant (OP excluded) idiots.

Agreed.
Of coure I am stereotyping Americans for comic effect, however the opinion of Mr. Janco is equally general, misguided, arogant and in some ways offensive.
Don't flatter yourself, Europeans have no reason to be jealous. European countries enjoy in general a greater quality of life, better health care. education, services and all-round prosperity.

You're seriously going to judge the whole of Europe based on one of the tiniest principalities on the continent? Really?

I'm sure you Americans are more used to paying a few cents for some fake substitute fat-filled burger. Not surprised you were thrown off by the salad too

Monte ****ing Carlo is not representative of Europe. It's full of vulgar celebrities and seedy businessmen and their wives.

Well i think if wealth was all they wanted they could have invaded America then :P

I think it's very American of the OP to flagrantly eat out without even checking the price of the food first!

The only reason that Americans aren't jealous of the BETTER standard of living in (continental) Europe is because they are bombarded with propaganda which gives them this hilarious delusion that their corrupt, socially backward country is somehow better than other countries

Like I said, exaggeration for comic effect. I have been to America, and they are the nicest, most welcoming people, however I was breifly infuriated by the thread.
I've never met anybody in Europe who has been obsessed with America's wealth besides Americans.

Also, you mean China's wealth?

No, because admittedly, you live better than the average Chinese person.
