Oh god yeah sorry!!! Haha, half the numbers for the foundation paper

Tip for the exam: At the start of the exam, flick through the paper and see which questions are coming up. This'll get you in the right mindset and get you thinking about the later questions subconsciously while you work through the paper, and no questions will come as a nasty surprise when you turn over the page!

Pretty good answers there  Only thing I'd make sure of is that for the 9 marker questions, maybe summarise why the option is great in a small conclusion, and for the smaller mark questions, make sure you recognise the detail you need to go to to get full marks e.g. for a 4 marker, make two detailed points etc etc, just makes sure you get the top marks over other candidates who may not remember to include all these little details that decide whether a student is A or A*

Yea, things like this always work against me in the exam  when time is against you it's very hard to remember all the detail :frown:

But thankss alot for actually looking through it thanks =D
Reply 423
No problem! Looking through other answers actually helps me too, gets me in the mind of the examiner so I know what to put tomorrow! Plus, in the exam you'll be full of adrenaline, so we'll write loads in the time given :P

My mock, some of it might not make since as i rushed thorugh it, if anyone has any advice on how to improve would be really gratefull;

1a) the location of the Olympic park with in London, is near the lea valley which runs through east London, it is also located near the river Thames, and within the area it is close by Stratford.
1b) London was chosen as a suitable venue for the 2012 Olympic games as the international Olympic committee beloved that London would host a sustainable games, promised were made that the new 2012 venues would be constructed from envirmoentally friendly materials, and is also one of the most deprived areas.
1ci) It aims to achieve sustainable games by including 'affordable housing, and also 'making the most of public transport'
1cii) Stratford is the most suitable location as it has an effective public transport system; it is also suitable as it has no space for car parking this is good as it reduces road traffic congestion which has grid locked some Olympic cities. Also it allows spectators and visitors to come from all over the world due to the motorway, airport and road links.
1d) the London 2012 games will help economically in many ways as it will allow organisations such as media to take live coverage of events happening which is beneficial as it helps socially the whole world can see the event and recognisee the greatest achievements. Also it helps envirmoentally venue will be constructed from environmentally friendly materials, and built to minimise waste and energy and water this is good as it does harm the environment doesn’t add to global warming as much and reduces people carbon/eco footprint.. another social factor to take into consideration is that it will have up to half a million people turning up to the event which is great as it means more money can be created due to Olympic priced tickets but also this pollutes the environment as many more people will be using public transport systems, on the other hand using public transport systems is sustainable as it means more people can use the bus as for taking one person and means less fuel will be used helping environmentally.
^^^^ Really stuck on this bit of advice would be helpful on how to answer 6 mark questions constructively.

2a) multiple deprivations relates to local people being deprived in many area such as housing, jobs, money and health care.
2b) one way it will improve employment in London is by creating 7000 temporary jobs, this is helpful as it reduces pressure on employment for a certain time period allowing the economy to recover.
2c) some people may see that having private housing is not beneficial, as having private housing will mean that house prices will be higher this is not recommendable as people in Newham can’t afford due to being 'multiple deprived', to add to this many rely on benefits which will not cover the cost also many have semi/un skilled jobs up 39.7 (fig 9b) and many are employed as there are not enough jobs to support everyone, for this reason because they can’t fund the cost of covering the housing it is not suitable. Also fig 10 shows people leavening with educational qualifications on 34% which shows that it is hard for people to move social classes e.g. from unskilled work to arterial type of work because they don’t have the knowledge or the experience. To support this many people live in renting housing 56.3 fig 17 which shows the vast majority prefer to live in this type because it is cooperative allows people to 'share' this means that it allows them to be save money which is what this local area is all about.
This is the reason why private housing is not suitable. ^^ need help on answering 9 mark questions in a suitable manner if someone can help much appriecented)

3a) the most appropriate social option I believe is option 6 this is beneficial in many ways;
it allows people to have a different future than their parents which is suitable as it allows them to make more of their lives e.g. having a sports university will allow people all over the world to come over and train their, this will inspire the young generation and to look at their international start and inspire to them, also it will allow sports clubs to use the sports facilities they have to provide which means they can develop their own skills, it allows them to meet their potential and encourages them to work and move out poverty conditions.
on the other hand this type of education may not be suitable as it is a 'niche market' doesn’t benefit everyone due to because the area/ parents do not have the money to send their kids to universities which means they can’t go and get the qualifications needed at school to move themselves up to higher rank unless grants are provided. Also Newham has multiple deprivation up to 34 percent of people leaving school with no educational qualifications and up to 40& in low jobs which means young people who do get the training needed but may not be given jobs as they new ham has a reputation for low skill work and will be given to outsiders.
This type of method is sustainable as it meets the needs of today as well as the future as it will exist for the future otherwise it will be a waste of money, Stratford as a effective public transport system and also it is built on Brownfield sites.

3b) I would choose option 2 this is beneficial as it allows people to get the skills need to develop the knowledge in the economy in the areas such as engineering, countering and research and development of products , also this needs computer literate people will lead to investment in educational facilities to get a skilled work force this is beneficial due to previous research it shows that only up to 34% get education qualifications which means they get low deprived jobs fig 9 or are unemployed this is supported by fig 7 as many rely on benefits to survive which means they lack basic resources this education facility will mean they have everything they need to support themselves get a decent living e.g. 5 away which would improve the population structure fig 5 and allow people to make their way out of poverty. also it allows overseas companies such as Google to move over which raises the profile of Newham, at the same time it allows other businesses to move in to the area called the multiplier effect as one business moves others emerge as well which will mean there will be more jobs for local people in the industry such as cleaning ect.. To support themselves and will mean construction jobs will be available, it allows them to get high qualified people in to the area to work on the machinery which will regenerate local businesses and the comfy. This disadvantage is it puts pressure on housing which is not available as many people in Newham are in 'densely populated areas'.
This would work with option 5 as it means the get the young people get the right qualifications to sure they can get the jobs they want allows high income salaries which mean they can afford the housing in Newham and live in spaced- out area instead of overcrowding and use their own washing machines/facilities. Although there are disadvantages such as it puts pressure on housing and small businesses as they will have to migrate, I believe these options outweigh the costs as it allows a future for the younger generation to make something of their life instead of following the tradition ethical cultural tradition families have passed down.
Be helfull if someone could mark it and give me feedback, on how to improve also how to answer 6 and 9 mark questions really struggled.

1 A) 2/2 good
B) 3/3 also good  x
Ci) 2/2 I think? Are they both one of the 10 aims. If so, yes  x
ii) 2/3 I think. You could do with being a bit more specific, like 'there are 5 tube links in the station'
D) it is a good answer, but you need a bit more structure, try to organise your points into positive and negative, or into economic, social and enviromental, I can see you got a bit confused as your reason that you called 'social' about money from the tickets was actually economic (getting money) you would probably get 4/6 for this answer, but would get probably 6/6 if it was well structured and clea pr as your ideas are actually very good  x
2. A) 2/2 good
B) was it 2 mark or 3 mark question? (sorry can't find my booklet). Either way I think you would get 2 marks because you have stated a good point but you need to explain how their income helps to boost the economy (if that makes sense)
C) probably 7/8 outta 9, you did well, maybe you could have explained why private housing makes house prices rise
3. A) personally, I think option 6 is harder to talk about than it seems but I thing you would have got 5 or 6/6 for this answer
B)probably 8/9  good answer, a little hard to understand at times (remember the 6 and 9 markers are QWC so you have to have good spelling and grammar etc.)

For the 6 markers, try to have for and against / positive and negative / environmental social and economic, something like that where you can clearly group your ideas into paragraphs and then have a little concluding paragraph at the end summing up your ideas

It's the same for 9 markers, just write a few more Points .

Sorry I took so long to mark, I was eating dinner  xx

Could someone PLEAASE mark  1a)
Define the term 'sustainable development' [2] sustainable development is m eeting the needs of today without compromising the needs of the future. It could mean not exploiting non renewable resources to achieve environmental sustainability. Social sustainability can be achieved when it meets the needs of people from all parts of the community and economic sustainability is when there is reasonable wages and jobs for people.
b)
Study page 4 of the resource booklet. Outline the reasons why organisers say that they will not know the final cost of London's 2012 Olympic Games until after 2012. [3] This is because excess can be spent on things that were not planned in the budget and that will could heavily increase the money spent on the Olympics. You also do not know how much profit they will make through advertising or the exact ticket so can’t get a number until after all this is totaled up.
c)
Study page 4 in the resource booklet. What evidence is there that past Olympic venues have little or no use after the games have finished? [3] The Sydney’s 2000 games were a prime example showing how a site that had been invested into had been turned into something which is derelict. The Sydney games was not maintained for example the archery field was overgrown, the pool was full with stagnant water. This suggests that no one had any care for the Olympic site or even used it for their leisure activities. The housing was not even used because it was sold off to private buyers, as they had spent too much and needed more profit, so wasn’t used by the locals.
d)
Study page 5 in the resource booklet. Although the games are titled 'London 2012', what evidence is there that it will be a national event? [2] The sites are located mainly in London, so will be centred there. However, there are many sites that are away from London, so will also benefit those areas because of more tourists. Those sites include canoeing in Hertfordshire, Sailing in Dorset. The officials wanted to use some existing sites, to make it more sustainable which are located all over the country.
e)
Study pages 7 and 8 in the resource booklet. Identify two reasons why the site in Newham was selected as the best place to build the Olympic Park? [3] The site in Newham was the ideal site to be selected because it had brownfield sites that were cleaned and cheaper to buy so was environmentally sustainable. In Newham there are also excellent transport links which can cope with vast number of people coming into the area every day. For example, the Stratford international station has been developed, the DLR has been extended and is the most connected part of London outside of central London. The area is also a very deprived area and lacks education and jobs and there are high crime rates., as shown in fig. 7. The area could get a chance to regenerate by attracting tourists who would spend money causing people to have higher incomes and more job oppurtunities for the locals.
f)
Study pages 8 and 9 in the resource booklet. Why was Stratford described as the most 'connected' part of London outside of Central London? [4] This is because it can cope with the vast number of people who will be arriving by public transport. The public transport links are extremely good, there are good underground networks and rail networks linking to many cities. There are also good b bus links with 16 bus routes serving Stratford and 6 buses per hour. There are also coach links for places in the North of England.
Section B: /18
2a)
Study figure 5 in the resource booklet. Compare Newham's birth rate and life expectancy to the UK in 2001. [2]
b) In 2001 the birth rate was a lot higher than of the UK. It had a much more youthful population. In the Uk the life expectancy was much higher than Newham, where there were very few 50+ year olds.

Study figure 6 in the resource booklet. Describe the ethnic structure in Newham in 2006 and suggest one reason why this might be. [3] In Newham there is a mmore ethnically diverse population with a high percentage of asian and black people, contrasting to England which has only 7% of those ethnicities. This could be because these people had language difficulties or were unskilled so found it difficult to get good jobs. They migrated to the area for cheap house prices or for affordable homes.
c)
Using examples, suggest reasons why Newham is described as one of the most 'deprived' areas of London. [3] Newham is described as one of the most deprived areas in London because it has the highest deprivation of basic economic and social factors. For example there are a low number of jobs available and lots people seeking benefits . Theres also low education, housing and high crime rate. This could be caused by the low income, which is one of the lowest in England and wales, which is caused by the low education the population has. 34% has no educational qualificiations and 39.7% are in semi skilled or unskilled employment.
d)
Using evidence, explain why income is lower in Newham than elsewhere in London and the UK. [4] Low income, which is one of the lowest in England and wales, as shown in Fig,8, is caused by the low education the population has. 34% has no educational qualificiations and 39.7% are in semi skilled or unskilled employment. This means that they cannot get high paid professional or managerial jobs because they do not have those skills or education needed. This could be affected by the ethically diverse community, who have migrated and have had little education oppurtunities so can’t gain more income.
e)
Using figure 15, what are the positives and negatives of using a brownfield site over a greenfield site for development? [3] building on brownfield sites rather than greenfields sites is environmentally sustainable. This is because the Greenfield sites are valuable habitats for animals and plants. The Greenfield sites should be conserved for future generations. The brownfield sites however are contaminatd so need to be cleaned because of toxic chemicals from previous derelict buildings.
f)
Using evidence, describe the existing housing in Newham before development of the Olympic site began. [3] The housing before development consisted of densely populated housing estates mainly provided by the council or the housing association. This was because people hadf very low incomes and there was the highest amount of overcrowding in Newham than trhe whole of England and wales. It didn’t have enough family housing to cope with the youthful population. And there was a very high housing deprivation in Newham . Before the Olympic site was built students at the uni of east London, travelers and a cooperative sharing living community had to be relocated. The sharing living community enabled people of low incomes to share living costs.

Section C: /15
3a)
*Choose one Economic AND one Social option that would work together in order to create the best sustainable legacy for Newham in the future.
Economic: 1
Social: 5
Justify your choice as the best option for Newham's future. [9]
b) I believe that the green park for sustainable employment and research and the social option of building 10,000 affordable housing. This is because they will both work together in creating a economic, social and environmental legacy for Newham. The eco friendly businessesand research into green technology such as building materials, could be used in the building of the affordable homes making them more sustainable and powered by renewable resources, achieving environmental sustainability.
The high number of jobs that will even be suitable for the people of Newham, this is because there are plenty of unskilled or semi skilled jobs available. 34% of the population have no educational qualifications but can still gain an income, and reduce unemployment in the city. There are also many apprenticeships available for young people which would mean that there would be a higher skilled force in the future and even less crime in the present. The people who would be coming to Newham, or the families wanting to work in this green park would need affordable housing, because they would still be earning very low, one of the lowest in England and wales as shown in fig. 8. So, they need homes that prevent the overcrowding that is happening at present, and that are at low rents but suitable for their large families that shouldn’t be living in small flats.
The managerial and highly qualified people migrating to Newham would also be needing houses so would be able to also benefit from the large high quality houses that attract them. If they are attracted to the area they have a high disposable income because of their education qualifications and well paid jobs so boost the local economy because they spend on services and shops.
Overall, the two option would work together by achieving many types of sustainability because they would enable people all throughout the community (low earners, low skilled or young people) to gain jobs and also reduce the affordable housing deprivation in newham, which is one of the highest in England and wales as shown in figure 23.

Not really sure you'll need to know about these aspects of it, but the obvious positivies include its environmental advantages: less emissions overall compared to using individual vehicles such as cars and motorcycles, widely available, no traffic etc etc! Negatives may include public transport only goes to main locations and therefore additional distances may have to be travelled by foot if the passenger wished to go to a specific location that the public transport did not travel to

Not an expert, but heres a few, if they help at all, or if they are relevant.

Positives:
-Millions invested, particularly in rail.
-Public transport means less CO2.
-Less congested roads.

Negatives:
-Very congested, to the point where train stations have had to close as too many people were on the platform.
-Can be expensive, notably trains.
