Oh also just a little bit i've just done, though i haven't covered all of the different type of nationalism.

Socialist nationalism
- some nationalists, usually former colonies, adopt nationalism as means of promoting economic development and independence from world trading systems
- despite fact socialism and nationalism not natural bed fellows. Socialist theory = class solidarity that will replace capitalist individualism, Marxists in particular viewed nationalism as a form of false consciousness, promoted by bourgeois to bring together w.c. in interest of capitalism + divert their consciousness away from revolutionary activities. Therefore surprising a no. of modern nationalists have also been socialistss
- in many cases nationalist leaders began as freedom fighters, e.g. Fidel Castro in Cuba and Robert Mugabe in Zimbabwe. = not surprising they would synthesis original socialism with with nationalist desire for independence and self-determination. A symbiotic relationship developed between nationalism and socialism – nationalism benefits from socialism as it enables country to avoid domination by external capitalist powers, evident in Cuba where need to escape from economic hegemony of neighbouring USA meant they should reject free market capitalism. At the same time, nationalism can assist the building of socialism by creating a sense of solidarity and national purpose.

And thanks that looks really useful too! And not part of it i've really focused on so it's very helpful

Yep, the ideologies one anyway.

Questions were:
1.What is patriarchy, and why is this important in feminist analysis?
2. How have ecologists revised conventional ethical thought?
3. How and why have multiculturalists supported minority rights?
4. Explain the ideas of eco-socialism.
5. Distinguish between nationalism and racialism.

6.To what extent is there tension between multiculturalism and liberalism?
7. ‘Nationalism looks to the past, not to the future.’ Discuss.
8. To what extent is feminism compatible with other political ideologies?

Yes there is.

AO1 (knowledge and understanding)= 5 marks
AO2 (analyse and evaluate, identifying paralells, connections, similarities) = 7 marks
AO3 (communication, appropriate political vocabulary)= 3 marks

Would u recommend using a conclusion at the end. Soz for asking to many questions just need to fix my head up on the structure. Also is there a minimum number of points I need to make for 45 marker

No I don't think you would use a conclusion for the 15 mark question as it's more explaining than forming an argument. I don't really know about the number of points though, sorry.

nobody else pulling an all nighter for this exam then?

How did everyone find it? I thought it was quite a good paper. So glad it's all over now though:smile:

some short answers were tricky at first glance.....eg the androgyny and essentialism but once i got into it i actually liked the question

I did short answers 3 4 5, and the Ecologism essay....

I didnt revise multiculturalism and it payed off haha, also the nationalism essay looked awful as it wasnt a 'traditional' question

Overall went better than expected, preferd the unit 3 paper

How did everyone else find it?
i did the ecologism essay, but i hadn't even thought of it before so got a bit confused :/ didnt like the look of the nationalism one, and completely avoided multicultralism.
2 feminism and the ecologism short answers.

could have been better :/
but yay for freedom
yeh I thought the paper was quite nice
I did short answers on anthropcentrism and ecocentrism, the nation-state, and feminism private/public divide
then I did the nationalism long essay.. i thought it looked the easier of the lot!
The nationalism essay was exactly like the one they always use, just instead of "expansionist and destructive" they used the opposite "recipe for peace and international order." So everyone who is saying it looked odd, it was exactly the same as all the others!
Reply 153
Yh my teacher said it was the reverse arguement for Expansionist and desctructive. However at first glance i was like WTF, and went for the Ecologism one which was nice
Reply 154
Did anybody do the long multiculturalism essay?
Reply 155

i basically talked about the 3 main forms of multiculturalism and hoe their policies could cause tension and social conflict and balance it by arguing how they may not( key words: polyethnic rights, representation rights:e.g affirmative action and other positve dicrimination, deep diversity, politics of recognision, esentialism, ghettoization, identity poltiks...., Key thinkers: charles taylor, trevor phillips, bhukhu parekh and isiah berlin) and with the rest of my time i talked bout how other ideologies have shown multiculturalism to cause tension e.g cons & feminists. how did u go about it?

This is all really helpful. i was wondering if anyone knew the structure for Unit 3 political Ideologies, because I keep being told there is no structure, when there must be! Any ideas? Thanks!
How many questions are there? I know we have to answer 3 15 markers and 1 45 marker but wondering how many options there were?
