I think Monday 19th will be the first day of Welcome Week
Having said that, if you're moving into halls then most people move in a few days before (somewhere between Thursday 15th and Sunday 18th) and so there will be social events going on before 19th.

Can someone please share their personal living cost (category wise) of UoM?

I think it's really difficult to say, and everyone is going to be pretty different based on how much you like to go on nights out and/or eat out, how much you spend on everyday items like clothes, and how many societies you want to join.

In my first year, I was in Woolton Hall - this is a mixed, catered, shared bathroom hall. Because it is catered, it is one of the more expensive halls, but having breakfast and tea cooked for you actually means that you spend almost nothing on food apart from your rent. The hall is in Fallowfield, which means most people want to buy a £215 bus pass, but other than all that lot I don't think there are any other major costs.

Now in my second year, I'm living in a house in Fallowfield. So the money for the bus pass still applies, but my rent is now a lot lower than Woolton prices. However, I do now have to buy all my own food and, now that I have to cook it as well, I eat out more this year as well, so the rent + food almost balances with Woolton prices. So again, I think it comes down to what else you want to spend your money on.

Therefore, although I wouldn't say the other guys are wrong, you could probably comfortably live off £7000 or maybe even less if you really tried

Hey guys,I got an offer for Economics and Finance (BAEcons).Currently considering to firm Manchester or Bristol.I have a few questions, hope you guys can answer them
1.In the manchester website,it said that in the end my degree would be BA (Hons) Economic and Social Studies but my offer on UCAS was Economics and Finance (3 Years) [BAEcon].Could someone clarify this for me?
2.I heard the student satisfaction for economics in manchester were pretty low, just wanted to know the reason behind this
3.Lastly,not really a question but if any of you have any insights on the quality of teaching of economics and finance at manchester,I'd appreciate it very much !

BA(Econ) Accounting & Finance student here. Basically the same course, but with different specialisation. (You can switch between a lot of specialisation from your 2nd and 3rd year if you do not like your course, as it is very flexible)

1. I think the term BAEcon is just the term the Uni of Manchester uses. It would probably say BA(Econ) on the diploma. It's not much of a big difference.
2. I am not an Economics student, so I cannot answer you on this, but the Micro and Macro lectures, as well as the Business Economics lecture in my 2nd year were really good and interesting.
3. I really liked the teachings of Finance (I preferred Finance better than Accounting), because it is both theoretical and practical with case studies and group assignments. Most of lecturers have done a lot of research in their fields, and some of them have worked in Wall Street, Investment Banks, advisor for CFOs, and hedge funds, so they have both pretty good practical experiences and academic backgrounds.

1. I did BA(Econ) Politics, and my degree certificate says BA Economic and Social Studies and then, on a new line in slightly smaller letters, Politics

2. It's the result of a protest by the Post Crash Economics Society. Google them - they've had a fair bit of media attention and I think the Times Higher Education covered their student satisfaction protest

Also, does anyone what is the latest time you would graduate (latest time slot)? I am desperate to know, because airplane tickets are getting ridiculously expensive.

Also, if you do not attend the ceremony, would the Uni send your diploma to you?

Late afternoon, from memory, but don't take my word for it.

If you don't go to the ceremony, then the university will post your degree certificate to you.
Hiya, does anyone know how many credits worth of courses we are supposed to take up in the 1st year? Is it 120 credits that will be split 60/60?

thanks
Can someone pls help me with step 10 of registration????????? Idk what i'm doing???
Hey, I know it's a bit late, but I just noticed the "bring proof of your english language proficiency" part in the Get Ready thingy from the uni.
As english isn't my first language, does it mean I was supposed to pass some sort of test ? Should I instead ask for my english teacher of last year to write a letter stating that I don't suck too much ? Or can I just show up as a tourist and hope for the best ?
I'm inclined to go for the last option, but pls help.

Did you submit TOEFL/IELTS score during admission? If that's the case you should bring your certificate. Or are you exempted from language certificate requirement during admission? But then if you're still in doubt you can always call/send email to your department

I didn't submit any TOEFL or IELTS score. I had english lessons at school, and they asked in the conditionnal offer for me to have a certain score at this course's final exam, and I had about 10% higher than what they wanted (booyah), maybe that's enough if I bring my diploma. Still, you're right, might be wiser to ask my department directly.
Thanks

Yes, they can - there's a reciprocal arrangement
I have an interview for Biology with a modern language (they haven't asked but I want to choose Mandarin). I took German at A-level (I'm applying post A2), and I'm worried about the language side of the interview because I haven't spoken German for a while... Does anyone know how much of the interview will be science/language based? Thanks! (ps I know I'm not applying for german but it's the only indication of how good my languages are)
