The English 2010 Applicants' Offers / Rejections / General Chat Thread.
Seeing as we've all (presumably) got our results now and have a good idea of what we wish to do, thought I'd copy the 2009 Applicants' thread.
Where are we all thinking of applying? Etc.
I'll update the OP with the usernames of all applying for English, if we wish

Oxbridge English Applicants 2010
There are threads for both unis, so I thought an English specific one would be good.
So, introduce yourselves. University, possible colleges etc
For me it will probably be Oxford, like the look of Oriel an Brasenose.
Anyone preparing for the ELAT?

Re: Oxbridge English Applicants 2010
Hmm, I think I'm gonna go for it.
I'm actually Year 13, and would be reapplying. I applied to Brasenose, Oxford last year..but um, yeah. Wasn't successful :p
I'm thinking Hertford, maybe. But it could well change. And it also depends on my grades this year.
You can't really prepare for the ELAT; it's not something you can revise for...You just have to be excited for it, really.

Did you have an interview last year?

Oxford, Lincoln. Depending on results, obviously.

Well, it's not for sure. I had no idea a few days ago, but my headteacher recommended it to me after a talk, so I thought I'd look into it.

Cambridge, Looking at Fitz or Sidney Sussex. They seemed quite nice about state schools.

Oxford- Wadham possibly, or St Johns- but their academic performance does scare me a little!

I'll probably be reapplying too, grades permitting. I was rejected from Queens' Cambridge, but I fancy another crack at it x

Re: Oxbridge English Applicants 2010
Just out of interest how well read are you guys? By that I mean roughly how many books have you read that would be studied in an English class/lecture/tutorial? So obviously excluding Harry Potter-like material.

Re: Oxbridge English Applicants 2010
You don't need to be a well-read scholar at 17 - as long as you've got passion for the subject and have obviously read a wide and deep range of material, you will be fine.
I'm applying this year to Brasnose College, Oxford - this is permitting AS grades/predicteds since we don't cash in - so it's all about the predicted grades!

Agreed.
Because you don't cash in, does that place you at a
dis advantage?
