I'm doing AQA. I have a Spanish pen friend, Sofia Torres Fernandez, who I speak to on Facebook, but she mainly talks to me in English!

Hey, I'm also doing AQA Spanish AS (resit) tomorrow. I'm worried because I always make such stupid mistakes especially with regards to gender, radical changing verbs etc .. I can't get above 6/7 in the grammar section! Does anyone else find this too?
Hola a todo

I'm doing the Edexcel AS exam tomorrow to resit and hopefully boost my grade!

I chose that question too:smile: I really liked it at the time, as I'd done work experience abroad so I compared that with relaxing holidays, and charity work, but only got 10 for content :/. Yeah, I'm currently planning loads of essay titles to get loads of ideas running through my head, because obviously the A2 topics are so different from the AS and I don't want to find I've got nothing to say for the AS! Yeah, my teacher has been much harsher since I did badly last time, so I'm hoping I've actually improved a bit and that she hasn't just got kinder as my exam's got nearer. I think that was another mistake I made, I always planned my essays at home but in the exam forgot to plan it until after I started a bit of it. :s-smilie:
I'm hoping it won't be so ambiguous this time though, as the past papers had always been OK, it was just that exam.
Oh no, that's really annoying! It's irritating having a change of teacher half way through an a level as well, because that's a time when you really need consistency. We're doing Andalucia (the region), and Picasso. I'm not really into art at all but Picasso's been more interesting than I thought it would be! I'm a bit worried that not studying any literature/plays/films isn't preparing me very well for uni though.
Thanks, it would be good to know how they find it as I've not got anyway at my sixth form to discuss it with!

I've only done volunteer work once abroad and that was in France. I'm planning to do lots of it in the future though! Hmm, I really don't know why you got a 10 for content! I did exactly the same as you! I wish I got to look at my exam again! After I've finished an exam I tend to forget what I've written, lol. I really wish you good lock tomorrow! Buena suerte chica! Your examiner might have been not been in a good mood when he/she marked your paper so hopefully the examiner is in a nice mood this time! At least you've learnt from your mistakes. You're gonna do smashing in this test
Yeah, I thought the past papers were great and then I did the Spanish test in May. I think all the summer tests were whack. I don't even want to talk about my D1 Maths exam because that was just evil. Pure evil. I got a really good mark in my mock, but dropped 9 or 8 marks in the actual exam, which isn't that bad, but I had expected to improve as I did my mock a month before the exam.
I really do miss my old teacher. I think that we don't talk as much as we used to during our AS classes as well and the A2 oral exam is harder :frown: I hardly get any marked work back either. Our teachers complain if we don't hand in our homework in time, but I've handed it in on time and have got only one piece back.
We talked a little about Picasso (I think) in our class. I think he painted a picture about the Spanish Civil War and that's kind of what we're learning now. If it wasn't Picasso then it was another Spanish artist, haha.
You can watch Spanish films and read some books in your spare time if you think that you're not being prepared for uni well. I haven't really read any Spanish books...fully, but I've watched tons of films and they're great. They may help you with another aspect in Spanish as well  What do you learn about Andalucia?

Hola:smile: looks like we're taking the same exam:smile:. I'm more worried about the essays, for the grammar I'd recommend doing all the ones on the AQA website from past papers and the kerboodle ones if you have access to those. Then look for any common areas you make- I found I normally made the same errors, and for common irregular adjectives (fem/masc) so that you're familiar with those. I've gone from getting 6-7 to 8-10, so I'd just say practice practice practice!
Any ideas on what's going to come up tomorrow? I've noticed friendship has never come up in the writing before so there might be something on that.
Good luck for tomorrow, hopefully we'll get a nice paper- let me know how you find it!

Well I got my paper back, and I did make loads of stupid accuracy mistakes, but that didn't really explain my content mark:/. Hahah thank you , I've done a lot of work for it, but still rather worried!
Yeah, I think the summer exams were all much harder than the past papers this year, and all the grade boundaries went up- the examiners were obviously all feeling particularly harsh last summer lol.
Oh no, that's really annoying, I hate it when teachers don't give work back, it's really hard to make progress without regular feedback:s-smilie:. Yeah he did, that was apparently one of his most famous paintings:smile: although I have to learn every detail about that painting which is going to be tricky:s-smilie:. The Spanish Civil War sounds interesting, I wish I could've learnt about that, I'm much more into history than art!
I think the A2 oral will be a bit more interesting than the AS, and hopefully we'll be able to learn the discussion more towards where we want it to go, the way we have to argue our opinions and stuff sounds good anyway! So I wouldn't worry too much, maybe your teacher will give you more specific oral practice near the exam? You could ask her about it, and if she refuses, speak to your head of year/department?
Yeah, I might try and do that over the holidays, because I'm a bit worried that most people will have done some kind of literature as one of their cultural topics and I'll be the only one that hasn't :s-smilie:. I try to read Spanish articles online and stuff when I have a spare moment, but at the same time I want to focus most of my efforts on getting the best grades possible in the actual exams! For Andalucia we're doing a bit of everything really, we're kind of applying the other topics like environment and immigration to it, and then doing about the climate, geography, tourism etc. It's quite interesting but I think I prefer the general topics to the cultural ones. How are you finding the general topics?
I've just found this link which is really, really helpful for grammar, has a huge list of grammar/verb drills and focuses quite a bit on the irregulars so you get to know them better  http://www.trinity.edu/mstroud/grammar/index.html

I'm doing the same AS subjects as you
And don't worry about the oral, everyone (apart from one person) seems to feel totally the same about it!! I'm stressing as mine is on Friday but I have a chemistry mock and the other Spanish paper on Monday and Wednesday respectively.... :frown:

Wooo! :five: Great minds think alike!
Woah yours is so soon, I don't think I have mine until next term! Good luck!! Aww you have so many exams.... I'm doing my Maths AS level early so I have s1 on Tuesday (edexcel) but really unprepared... I'll probably be resitting that along with C2 in the summer :')

Not a big fan of Mylo Xyloto though.... it's aight but a bit disappointing... got nothing on Parachutes/AROBTTH....

What about you?

Me gusta leer El Pais tambien.

god I hope friendship doesn't come up! I really hate writing about las relaciones :s-smilie: I've done all of the AQA past papers and have slowly been getting better at the grammar section! I've planned lots of essays so I'm just going to learn good phrases and then I think I'll be finished :/
