Hey, I'll be a mature age student in September and I have a couple of questions. 1 - when will I get my time table as I have an unconditional offer
2 - are there a lot of mature age students? Do any of them go to halls or what's the go with things like that?

Heya, I'm also gonna be a mature student starting in September at the grand (not so) old age of 23. I've applied to live in halls as I don't see a major issue with the age difference, especially as I regularly enjoy socialising, meeting new people and going out  Really looking forward to it!

You should contact the uni to make doubly sure. Have a look at http://www.southampton.ac.uk/assets/imported/transforms/content-block/UsefulDownloads_Download/160FAAF87F3C4A5DB78B71CBC80103AD/Pre-departure_Leaflet_2016.pdf

Look at the "Meet and Greet" section and email [email protected] (or any other contacts you have at the uni) to clarify.

Hey all!

Some of the other university boards have this, so thought it might be worth doing something like this for the University of Southampton.

I'm a current student, as are quite a few of the others who have been posting here, but thought it might be useful to have a single thread with just questions and answers in to make it a bit easier to ask and get a definite and quick reply, and to see other answers. I've had a few questions sent individually, and again, it's probably best if everyone can see the questions and answers more easily

So if you're thinking of coming here (or about to start here), ask away! Whether it's about halls, courses, facilities, Southampton life, nightlife, things to do, meeting people, the atmosphere or just what it's like to be here - ask away!

If you're a current student, feel free to help!

If you do post in here, I'll do my best to reply within the day!

Hello
I am an international student and don't know much about the U.K So, how would you rate Univ. of So'ton in terms of student-friendliness or as a 'safe' place for study or is it one? Also, how is the Mech. Eng. dept. and why is it regarded as one of the best in The U.K?And also, the VISA section says that I must have sufficient funds to cover my tuition fees and maintenance in a bank account in my name 28 days before i submit the application. What does this m

Hi,

I applied in April and haven't got an offer back yet, but I think I remember reading the deadline was August so hopefully we'll hear back soon with an offer.

Hey Rachel, I just got my offer like 2 hours ago. There's this 30 page contract you have to read about guidelines and what not.
Hope you receive your offer soon, apparently they're not sent out all at once.
Let me know what happens. Goodluck.
So this is interesting, my accommodation license begins on the 24th of September. However, the meet and greet is on the 21st and 22nd of September (correct me if i'm wrong)So where do I spend these 3 days? I heard something about an emergency accommodation? Does anyone have any idea about that? Thanks in advance everyone.

Thanks for the help !

To anyone interested

"Dear Taha,

Many Thanks for your email.

Once you have booked unto the Meet and Greet, your accommodation start date will be adjusted to 21st September 2016.

I hope you find this information useful.

Best Wishes,

Adeola"
Do most Clearing students manage to get a place in halls of residence? Perhaps it's just the twin room sharing left for latecomers?

I've read the 'commute' between campuses for lectures can be lengthy? Is it a private bus hired by the Uni on a circular route or the regular public service bus that most people take.

Hi Taha,
I'm still waiting for mine, starting to worry that there's something wrong with my application, just out of interest did you receive an unconditional offer?
Thanks

I don't think you should worry, pretty sure they send these offers in bulks and if you're a new international student I think you have a guaranteed place. Hopefully you'll get yours soon!
Yes my offer was unconditional, if you have any questions feel free to send me a message I'm more than happy to help.

Hey guys, I have a couple of questions as well.
Where can I find some policies regarding the examinations, how those are being assessed, in what form are they carried out, and what happens in case of failures, repetitions, etc. I am unfamiliar with the UK way of things, since I studied in local University that had a mix of Bologna/USA educational system practices, so I am unsure how things work here.

I will be at MSc course for CS, so any postgrad specific information would be helpful, but generally I couldn't find anything related to this.

Another thing is regarding the choice of courses, as previously I have been quite limited with those and we had almost a fixed curriculum of courses which we followed. Here, I see we have an option of "making our own curriculum" with elective and optional modules, and does the university offer some suggestions or guidelines or some recommended "packs" or something that would aide students in this process? Thanks!
Hi, I was wondering whether anybody had any idea on the psychology degree timetable. Im trying to decide between actually attendin uni or going through the open uni (mature student, military wife and mum of 3) Thanks in advance

Hi there, just wanted to ask how I find out my block/flat number? I have been offered and firmly accepted my accommodation a while ago so I have known my halls for a good amount of time. Just wanted to know when I am told a bit more information so I can possibly find out who my flat mates are soon?

Thanks a lot!!!
Is anyone else struggling to make a uni email account? I get an error message with my Southampton ID even though it's the one I used to apply for accommodation
