Finance isn't that glamorous when you start out.... But good to see a thread like this (Y)
Hello I'm starting my accountancy apprenticeship, I want to find out where it could take me... I'm 16 and just finished high school.
Thanks
I did business and accounting at university and unfortunately got a third due to lots of different personal circumstances extremely close to a 2:2.I wanted to know if i should start or complete the ACCA before applying for accounting jobs because i can’t get on any graduate schemes. I’ve found that the majority of jobs require experience and may be the reason i don’t get shortlisted or past the interview stage. Do you think there would be employers out there willing to hire me if I’ve started or completed the ACCA even though i don’t have experience of working in a similar or the same type of position? Is there anyway i could get experience using software like sage as this is one of the requirements?

Has anybody done a video interview/career conversation for pwc?
I have currently graduated in Business Economics with 2.1, and I would like to start my career in Accountancy in order, later on, obtain ACA qualification. Although I have applied to all top 100 accounting firms for graduating scheme on February/March for September 2019, I have not received any replies from them. In addition to that, I am just simply applying to all possible accounting assistant roles but it seems that they requiring some experience. Unfortunately, I do not have any relevant experience, in fact, I do not have any experience at all as I came to the UK international student from Russia and as I said just graduated from the Uni. So can someone advise me where or what role I need to apply so companies would accept me? I am happy to start in the lowest position in accountancy as long as a company helping me to achieve ACA later on and location should be in London.

There's not really a general chat thread here and who doesn't love to talk about the glamorous world of auditing (and other finance jobs) when procrastinating from...well, auditing?

On the agenda: industry/practice news, general life at your firms/in your jobs, the past, the present, your future e.t.c. applications, moniez, culture, gossip, stories, the funner aspects of your job, spam and general chit-chat; whatever anyone wants to talk about.

I guess it would be a good hub for any potential applicants who have questions also.

Introductions? I'm just about to go into my second year as a Big 4 Auditor in a regional office attempting to specialise in sports, property, travel/tourism and leisure. Anyone else?

Recent news: promotions, bonuses and pay rises are here.

Summer is a thousand times better than busy season.

I am now treasurering for our local chartered accountants student society after social seccing and am bricking it over the workload.

I have eight months off until college and therefore am guaranteed a job for at least this long, hooray!

New graduates start soon and I think we've barely filled half our quota yet.

Less interesting: our new audit system is about to go live meaning the system I have spent the last year learning has been a waste. :frown:

We lost our first trainee last week after nine exams. :frown:

I'm working at Bolton Wanderers next week and managed to get onto Everton and the Ryder Cup this week! (interesting for me probably not you) :gthumb:

I might do a day in the life post if anyone is interested, I always enjoy reading those. If you have any questions for me about any aspect of the job or applying then fire away.

Chat away minions.

Hey guys, quick tip ive just found out that Stunii are offering students 50% off their premium accounts! Go check them out x
I don't understand why you don't fill your quota? And I agree with you that busy season is not better than a summer.
I'm starting an accountancy training program looking forward to it...will update you all.
