perhapse i should clarify what i meant though when i said western it was in the relative sense which being the case makes it about the most western nation out of the rest of the islamic nations ... all you have to do is get the boat from spain to Tangier or fly to Marrakesh and you'll see that the population behaves very much like that in the west ... barring the bazaars and calls to prayer at 4am :rolleyes:

Sadly this sort of thing isn't exclusive to Morocco, which has traditionally been one of the more progressive Muslim states. Much of the Muslim world still has these kinds of laws. Saudi Barbaria, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iraq, etc. It's all business as usual to brutally oppress women like this. Even in the most progressive Muslim states like the UAE, Jordan and Turkey (which has a very strong secular movement), women are still seen to be inferior to men in to varying degrees.

and detaining people indefinitely without trial is oh so much better isnt...? every country has its faults.
i take it you dont follow the news though do you? you do realise morocco was caught in the arab spring and has been under going drastic liberalisation? the fact a law exists doesnt mean people agree with it ... we in england can shoot a scotsman within the walls of york by law again does that sound westernised to you...

not surprising, this is normal in islamic countries. in afghanistan for example a woman was given the choice to go to jail or marry her rapist.
