I'm planning on firming Bristol for Vet Nursing & Biovet Science but struggling to decide on my insurance choice!
I'm stuck between RVC & Middlesex...
At the open day and interview I really liked RVC, the facilities were great and the campus was super pretty with nice accommodation for the price! But I also felt like the Vets and Vet Nurses were very separated, the vet nurses being based at Hawkshead meant I was out of the city and it was a faff to get there and the course is 4 years compared to Middlesex!
The reasons I like Middlesex are that it was the first Vet Nursing degree in Europe so they basically wrote the main skeleton of the degree, its 3 years rather than 4 years so I'll be in a Job a year sooner at £9000 saved, the placement is split up across the 3 years and its in a more city style location! But as I live really far away and had my interview at the Leeds campus as I literally live around the corner, I havent been to the campus or seen the accomodation!? I think I like the idea of being part of a bigger uni but I cant really tell because I havent actually seen it and i'm not 100% sure what their facilities are like?
So yeah, I'm in a bit of a confused situation and not got long to decide so any help or any further info on either Uni would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

Hey! My first advice is to visit the campus you would be placed in! That way you can get a feel of the place and if it's welcoming and friendly because your going to be there for 3 years and your most likely not going to be going home every weekend! I put RVC as my insurance and Hartpury as my firm because Hartpury was more welcoming to me and the campus was amazing! To me, the most important thing is whether or not you will feel comfortable, happy and at home there which unfortunately wasn't that much at RVC compared to Hartpury which I realised after visiting both again! So book a day and visit them, you can easily make your mind from doing that! RVC is amazing and they saved my dogs life there so they will always be a fantastic university to me, it just wasn't my place to go to 😊 RVC does have the largest referral practice in the uk so that's always really good to have! Unfortunately I didn't apply for Middlesex so hopefully someone else will help you there! Hope I helped! 😊

Thank you, that did help a lot!
I'm going to have a proper look into possible trains and things to get me to a campus tour, just so hard trying to get there what with living 3 1/2 hours away plus not being able to drive and my parents both working busy full time jobs!
I got a similar sort of feel from RVC too, it's just that the facilities on campus are so good I really dont want to rule out just on the fact I didn't feel like it was 100% my ideal kind of surroundings!
The other thing is, RVC is a set grades offer where as Middlesex is points so gives me more flexibility with results! But then the fact they dont have on site facilities worries me, so hard to choose!
Thanks again for your help

That's good, glad I could help! 😊 yeah Hartpury is 3 hours away, I arranged a day where both mum and dad could get time off and settled it with Hartpury and they arranged for someone to show us the whole place which was good so hopefully that will happen for you as well! 😊 yeah you have to take everything into account so I don't blame you, it's an incredibly hard decision! I really struggled! Yeah I felt like the set grade put added pressure on me haha! 😄 so Middlesex doesn't have everything on site? Would you have to travel between places to get to lectures and then clinical practice?
Hey guys😁

Okay so I'm in a bit of a situation and came here for advice. I recently managed to secure a student vet nurse placement within a vet practice to study the vet nursing diploma.

Long story short, the college I was meant to go with didn't tell me there was an excess fee of £6000 that I'd have to pay because the 19+ learning loan wouldn't cover all of the fee. I ended up having to give up my placement as it was unpaid and I only work part time so there's no way I could afford it.

I don't necessarily have the grades to go study a vet nursing degree, I could probably get into the foundation degree with the grades I have and experience (I've been at a vet practice for almost a year now) but I'm really stuck on if I should apply for uni or stick it out and try another college to study the diploma.

I've already spoke to a college that said they would pay my course fees but then it's going back to finding a student vet nurse placement.

I live in Bristol and it seems almost impossible to find a placement. Out of 40 practices I tried, 1 offered me an interview and the only reason I was offered the interview was because i could start sooner than Hartpury students. Obviously I had to give up my placement and they ended up giving it to the Hartpury student lol.

I was thinking of maybe applying for Hartpury in 2017 but then I'd have to move away, which is something I don't really want to do as I have a lot going on here, friends, family, boyfriend etc.

Any advise would be great as I'm completely stuck.
Curious to know what you're making of Hartpury if you're in a financially strained situation, as I'm in a similar one. It seems their 2 year diploma has a course fee of £9000, which is the highest of any college I've seen thus far, and I'm wondering if perhaps you know something I don't? I was about to e-mail them and ask if this price is correct as comparative prices at other colleges seem to range from £850-£1000.
Has anyone else applied for vet nursing at RVC starting 2016/2017 ?
Yeah I am! Have you received an offer?
Hello, I will be starting at CAW Leeds doing the veterinary nursing degree. Is anyone else on here going?!
Bristol have put Vet Nursing & Biovet Science into early Clearing : http://www.bristol.ac.uk/results/vacancies/clearing-home-eu/

Course requirements are BBC including B in both Chem & Bio, plus GCSEs.

Yeah I know! So glad I managed to get through the interview, the presentation definitely got me nervous! Can't believe how close it is now though. Have you got all your stuff ready for it like a lab coat and stuff like it says on the coming to Hartpury page. Do you know if we have to get a uniform before we go there, I don't want to be the odd one out!
Thanks, Jenny x

The presentation was nerve racking! Feel so lucky to have got a place! No I haven't got any uniform , I think they said we get it during freshers week so we can try things on for size etc.. that's what I'm planning to do anyway so you won't be the odd one out .. are you living on site? I'm going to be travelling to and from home every day as I only live in Swindon about 40 min drive away - so worried I'm going to miss out on stuff tho :/ xx

Yeah tell me about it!
Yeah that sounds like a better idea actually so you don't have to be sending it back and stuff.
Yeah I'm living on site, did my accommodation a bit late but I've still got a room.
That's funny I live in Cricklade just down the road! Not sure I could do all that travelling like you, though the drive is pretty straightforward. I'm sure you won't, I suppose though it just depends on what times events finish and stuff. I'm not really one to go out and party to be honest as I hate the taste of alcohol and am a horrid dancer 😂 but will still go out just to try and make friends. I'm more concerned about essay writing as I've been out of sixth form for two years now so might take me a while to get back in the swing of them x

Wow what are the chances  yeah I'm not too fussed about going out - plus my dancing is horrendous too 😂 its just the socialising / making friends part during freshers week that I don't want to miss out on. Maybe I'll sleep in my car in the car park for the week haha!
I finished college in 2012 so completely understand where you are coming from on that one, been in work since so it's going to feel completely alien! x

Yeah I know! I'm glad I live close as I can come back for the night or weekend if I want, bring all my washing home 😉
Yeah I suppose there's that, haha yeah well you could drive up for the things in the day I suppose like the fair and stuff.
Someone older than me, now I don't feel so bad 😉 I'll only be 20 starting anyway as I'm the baby of the year. I'm sure we'll get back into it, we'll have help anyway x
Hey, is anyone doing the vet nursing and bioveterinary science course at Bristol? I firmed this morning!
How did results day go for you guys? I hope you all got the grades you wanted and are looking forward to university
