Is Imperial boring??!?

I've heard sooo many people saying that Imperial is boring, does anyone know why this is the case?

Is it because you have to study so much, or the 65:35 male female ratio? I mean....there are still girls, just half as much as other universities! It's also in London, so that's a big advantage "social-wise".
So is imperial boring or not?

because that's what it said on the website and it also gives a clearer idea on what percentage it is. besides 13:5 is wrong buddy

Noooo, I'm a first year medic at Imperial and it's AWESOME! I was worried there wasn't going to be much of a social life but that's not the case! Loads of events are organised and if you're a medic, the social life is brill.... so many crazy nights out!

There are goods and bads about Imperial,

Pros,
- Excellent university, you are in the right place if you are determined to work hard and get a good degree
- London, you will never run out of places to visit
- Cultural diversity, a great opportunity to meet overseas students
- Lots of clubs and societies, you will almost definitely find like minded people in there.

Cons,
- Cultural diversity, it is actually very difficult to get to know overseas students, often because of language barrier, and they prefer to stick with people from the same country.
- Living in halls is like like living in hotels, people tend to be very independent, occasionally you may find 8 people cooking in the same kitchen and don't talk to each other.
- Because a lot of students have done nothing else except spending a great deal of their time studying ,many of them are not very sociable in person, as well as immature, close-minded, low EQ and arrogant. (That's just my opinion)
- Fewer girls, I guess you will find less girl friends (maybe more boy friends?)

Imperial is boring? Depends on your definition of 'boring'

Haha u find it awesome because all first year medics are complete wasters! they do no work and party every night! Whereas we other "imperialites" get set work to do!
I'm having a fricking awesome time in Imperial so I don't know what OP's banging on about.

Also, there are loads of girls here!! In fact most of them are stunning! Seriously....

That's so good to hear! I'm applying for medicine too, I was scared that the amount of work you have to do meant no socialising ahaha. By the way, how was your BMAT exam? When did you start to prepare for it?

The work is starting to build up now as they're introducing things we've never come across so I imagine I'm only going to go out a couple of nights a week from now on but there are always going to be people who go out more so don't worry about being bored  BMAT was OK, got 6.6, 5.4, 4A and started preparing for it about two/three weeks before the test.

Nope, my only arty a-level was French but we didn't really have to do any essays for that! Just do about 5 practice ones to get the hang of it and I'm sure you'll be OK

Yeahh I see what you're saying, also my friend told me this, and it is kind of true. A lot of people applying to imperial are scared that it'll be boring, are the people that aren't boring anyway, so not everyone is going to be an 'imperialist' lool

Hahaha the age-old question about Imperial. I've only been here a few weeks but I shall attempt to give you what information I can.

Are there women at Imperial?
65:35 is actually quite deceptive. Many of the girls are Medics so you won't see them, and the rest of the girls tend to bunch together. I have an album on FB of my time at Imperial so far (about 60 photos) and according to the summary thing there are 20 different people tagged in the album photos- 19 guys and 1 girl. LOL. Imperial is extremely male-dominated, that is no exaggeration.

Is Imperial boring?
I can't really answer this in absolute terms because I don't know what your concept of "boring" entails. But in a relative sense, compared to other universities, then yes I would say Imperial is boring. People here do not give the same importance to crazy socialising as at other universities. The flipside though is that if you DO want to go out, you're in centre of London. The range of things to do here is absolutely phenomenal.

Why don't people go out that much?
It's almost entirely down to the workload, as all degrees at Imperial are very intense. Engineering is a particular slog of a subject, and 40% of the Imperial student population are engineers. Also a large number of international students don't like drinking/partying very much, it's just not their idea of fun.

Should any of this put me off Imperial?
If you're one of these people who just wants this "student lifestyle" of drinking, partying and sex with not a concern in the world, do not come to Imperial.

Personally, I've really been enjoying my time at Imperial. A place is as good as the people you know there, and I've met some really decent people here. If you're prepared to work hard then this can be a fantastic university.

You seem to have a loose definition of stunning ;p, but I have to admit it's a lot better than I anticipated.
