Lol no problem. A student room app would be great actually, never really thought of that. And yeah I never knew the city was so big either until i decided to go to an open day at Brunel and it took me two hours!

You're luck you picked Englishes, sometimes I regret picking these subjects :/ And haha this smiley is cute enough

Lol that's true, I don't know that much about you either. I do like to party but I'm not a party animal. I do enjoying going out with friends often and when I'm not I just stay at home and either study or just chill out. Haha I'm not one of those people that have an amazing social life and get As, although sometimes I wish I could be like that.

How about you? Are you a party person? I don't see you as someone that just sits at home and studies all the time for some reason  And what do you enjoy doing in your free time?

I don't go out that much really, especially now the exams are looming:frown:. Plus there is very little to do where i live (unless you have a penchant for old peoples' homes or churches), so when i go out it tends to only be to friends' houses or, in the case of my one friend who can actually drive, usually the cinema. I used to go to quite a few lot of parties when i had a girlfreind, but since then they've kinda become a rarity. That's another big reason for me wanting a university in London, so i can have a slightly more varied social life.
My village does have a pretty decent gym though, which i've been going to religiously every other day since i was 16, so that takes up quite a bit of my spare time and helps to stave off bordom.

Other than that i don't do much apart from studying and writing short fiction. I don't imagine it's very easy to get bored in London? How do you tend to spend your free time? I'm kinda jealous of the intellectual party people too, though i'm pretty happy with myself and what i've got:smile:
Actually supposed to be doing an essay right now, that's why i'm on my computer so soon, yet i've spend the last hour pratting about on the internet  So i probably should stop typing, but i know when i do i'll have to start my work. Ok i'm gonna make myself do it now *sigh* bye.

I haven't been out yet although it's half term as exams are too close and it's my last chance at them. Social life in London while at uni is going to be great, from what I've heard and I've also been told there are some nice places near Brunel too

You write short fiction? Wow, that must be fun and very talented you are then  I have a friend that write short fiction too and it's my job to read through it all and make sure there are no mistakes. You can never get bored in London, there's always something to do or somewhere to go. I love reading books and listening to music and of course, as a girl, I do love my shopping  When going out, I enjoy watching a movie at the closest cinema or just visiting friends.

Haha actually I came onto the computer to do my work too and somehow ended up here on TSR again :P oops. Bye

Haha lol. I love reading too, although a lot of books struggle to keep my attention and i end up abandoning them half way through :/ What king of books/films do you read/watch?
Why is it your last chance at the exams, can't you re-take them? But i suppose re-taking isn't ideal, i don't think i'll do it if i don't get the grades; i'd rather go into clearing and end up doing some crappy course like sports-science in grimsby than stay in this depressing little town another year.
That's really cool your friend writes, it's a small word  I won't ask any questions about it because i know some people are quite concious and private about what they write, i have to do about eight read throughs before i'm happy for anyone else to look at anything i do. She/he must be really close with you to let you check their stuff (which is a really nice thing for you to do btw)
So what do you want to do as a career? I know what course you've applied for but it opens up quite a few doors, is there any specific direction you want to go in?

I've already applied for accomodaion, i'm not sure there is very long left if you want to as well. If you've not been to Brunel it's really nice, you get a real community feel from the place.

Lol i do that to allot of books too :P I love any book... tbh I don't mind as long as its good  Films: Romantic comedies have to be the best. I watch allot of foreign language movies too, especially ones in my mother language tamil. What type of movies or books do you enjoy? (Apart from the ones you abandon halfway :P lol)

It's my last chance at the exams because I'm in the end of year 13 and don't have a chance at A-levels again. If I don't get the grades I'll probably also apply through clearing and do a different course but hopefully it'll still be at Brunel.

Yeah it's my best friend who writes  We're really close, she's like my sister so she trusts me with everything and knows I'd tell her the truth about what I think about her work  Thank you and I really enjoy reading what shes writes and I can also spot the little mistakes she hasn't seen, which really help her.

As a career I wanted to do medicine, although my mum didn't actually want me to do it. But since my grades were high enough for medicine I decided to apply for Biomedical Scientist. I'm not sure if I will continue with Biomedical Science as a career or if I will retry for medicine again as a post graduate yet. How about you? Did you always want to do Jounalism?

I've already applied for accomodation too. I loved the accomodation as it felt like the perfect sized rooms. It will also be easier to make friends  Good luck!

Wow i didn't know you were foreign! Or did you mean your family was from India? Either way it's pretty cool  I enjoy a lot of foreign films but don't think i've actually seen a film in Tamil, are there any you'd recomend? One with subtitles would be better, as my grasp of most other languages is pretty limited. I only know a handful of words in Tamil and that's only because my school is partnered with one in Sri Lanka, for some reason :s-smilie:

There isn't a particular type of film i cling to, but i do really like comedy and thrillers (bit of a contrast between the two i know, but i think i just like anything with intelligent really). I like theatre as well but nothing pretentious, mainly stuff by Alan Bennett etc. Books are similar but i am slightly more picky
It's good your doing what you want and not letting your parents push you into anything, a friend of mine, despite my best attempts to convince him otherwise, is applying for law just because his dad wants him to (he himself wants to be a pilot, which i myself don't see the attraction in).
Medicine is cool, i wanted to get into neurobiology untill i failed chemistry:frown: but am pretty happy with the idea of being a journalist:smile:
What's happening with your friend when you go to university? Is she moving somewhere far off or will you still be close enough to see her all the time?

Lol of course you couldn't know I was foreign unless I told you :P Actually I'm not from India, I'm Sri Lankan too  Thanks! If it comes to recommending I'm not sure because the ones I've recommended my best friend she didn't seem to like. But I went and watched a film in the cinema yesterday called 3. It's a romantic thriller so you might like it :s-smilie: A song from it was pretty popular recently called 'Why this kolaveri di?' And wow your school is partnered with one in Sri Lanka?! That is cool but quite random at the same time.
And a handful of words is better than knowing no words

Yeah I'm glad I chose to do what I want too because I didn't want to spend the rest of my life doing something I didn't enjoy. Glad you tried to convince your friend about doing what he wants but too bad it never worked out :frown:

Journalism is very interesting and if you enjoy writing too, it'll help

Actually my friend's applied to Brunel too but she's not too keen on going there and wants to move quite far away (unfortunately) but we'll still keep in contact and will visit each other during holidays, probably when we go back home to see our families at occasions such as Christmas and Easter

Wow you're so positive, it's really refreshing  (I feel a bit of a tool starting another message with 'wow, sorry about that). I'm not sure why my school is parntered with one in Sri Lanka, i suppose it's to do with us being a language college but i don't really get the connection between our little country school and the one in SL
Honestly i hadn't heard of that song before, but i looked it up on youtube and i quite enjoyed it. I'll keep a look out for the film you suggested, though i don't know how likely it is to be at my closest cinema as they tend to only put really mainstream films on there :frown: Usually if i want any sort of culture i need to travel three hours down the road or luck out with the television.
It's a shame about your friend but i suppose it gives you an extra reason to look forward to going home at the holidays  Provided either of you decide to stay at uni during them, because i've heard quite a few people do that.
So are you fluent in English and Talim? I always struggle with languages because of the different grammar systems, so it's really impressive if you are! Did you come to Blighty when you were a baby or was it a recent thing? The only person i know from a foreign country is Scottish, and i don't really think he counts :frown:

Aww thanks  Haha no problem. Oh yeah maybe it is because of that... I've never heard of a college specialised in language before until you told me yours was.

Glad you enjoyed the song. And I doubt it would be in a cinema close to you. They don't play tamil films in many places outside of London :/ Three hours?! That is a long drive :O

And yeah I'm gonna miss her but we'll keep in contact so should be okay  I don't think I'll stay at uni for them because I can't cook so I'll wanna come home for a Christmas dinner with the family

Yeah I'm fluent in both English and Tamil. I can speak Tamil well but I can read or write as there are too many letters in the alphabet to remember and it would take me years to learn it :P I know how you feel about the grammar system because I struggled doing French for GCSE! I moved to London when I was about three because my grandma passed away and my granddad was on his own. We moved over from France, where I was born. So although I said I'm Sri Lankan I wasn't actually born there lol :P And haha Scottish doesn't really count as foreign but it's not England so we could pretend he was actually foreign

Lol:smile: so you're an English speaking French Sri Lankan? That's quite discombobulating
You're probably right about them not showing it near me, i have two cinemas within an hours drive and one of them didn't even show The Iron Lady because they said it was too 'specialist'. The other cinema only shows two films at a time and seems to get them six months later than everywhere else (i past it last week and they've only just got the last Harry Potter film :/) I didn't actually realise how ridiculous that is untill i wrote it down :/
Haha, i'm not sure how long you'll last at uni without being able to cook, unless you just live off something like beans on toast  I mock but i can only cook about four dishes myself:colondollar: Maybe i'll just go on some really restricting diet like the 'cucumber diet' so i don't ever have to cook anything:smile:
It doesn't really matter if you can't read or write in the language, it's still really impressive! I can only string a couple of sentences together in other languages, most of which need to be in pretty specific contexts (e.g. The only sentence i can say in Spanish is 'Zumo de Queso', which roughly translates as 'juice of cheese'). And i remember seeing the Tamilian alphabet, so don' worry about me not understanding how unbelievable complex it is :s-smilie:
Do you tend to use English or Tamil more when talking to your family?

Lol yeah I guess I am :P
They're only showing the last Harry Potter now?! :O I remember it being in cinemas last August!!!
And it's ok I know how to make basic meals like pasta and few other dishes but I seriously doubt I'll have time to follow a recipe and make meals like lasagne :/ A cucumber diet? Hmm... I don’t think that’ll keep you full for very long :s-smilie:

Aww thanks  I’ve always wanted to learn but it’s just too much to remember! I even bought a book when I went there on holiday to learn the first few letter of the alphabet and realised it was a book meant for babies! Haha. The only sentence I know in Spanish is me llamo... which is my name is... lol

And I use Tamil when I talk to my parents but I talk to my sister in English coz its easier

Yeah that cinema is pretty behind, i think you can even get that Harry Potter film on DVD now so it seems a bit pointless them showing it at all :s-smilie:
I'm not sure how many dishes it's possible to make using only Cucumber, but i'm sure if i bought the little book about said diet i'd (hopefully) be surprised. Although if i'm honest i'd probably only last about a week on it before getting bored and making a curry or something lol  I tend to be only able to make desserts like cakes and things, i don't know why but when i try to cook normal food it never goes to plan (i tried to make an omlette the other day and ended up with scrambled egg, no idea how that happened)

Haha, well i suppose you have to start somewhere when learning how to write in another language  Being able to speek another language could come in handy in medicine, it would help cross language barriers with certain patients. And if wprst comes to worst and you don't get into uni you could always just become a translater! Not a particularly exciting career path but at least it's a safety net:smile:
Do any of your friends' speak Tamil? That might seem quite ignorant of me to ask that but i don't know how common it is for people in London to be able to speak foreign languages:s-smilie:

Lol yeah I think it is out on DVD. And I’m sure there are a few things you can make with cucumbers :P Bored in a week? I’d be bored after two days haha. And I think I’m better at making meals more than desserts... I remember trying to make banana bread at school in year 8 and it turned out more like banana cake instead! :s

That is very true and if I do do medicine in the future I’d love to go and work in Sri Lanka for a while which would also help knowing the language  And thanks for the idea... I never thought of becoming a translator before until you mentioned it.

I have quite a few friends that speak Tamil. And no problem about asking  If you ever visit London you’d be surprised at how many people speak a foreign language! Have you been to London before? It might be a good idea to visit if you wanna go to Brunel so you can have a look around and see places you could go to enjoy your uni social life
