Scroll to see replies

Hi Everyone!

I'm Chris, a student ambassador studying Marketing at Bournemouth University!

Have you guys heard about the faculty of media and communications at Bournemouth?

We have three TV studios, one of which has been used by the BBC for their local work. We've also got radio stations, journalism suites, post-production studios, a foley suite and loads more industry-level facilties!

Did you know? Bournemouth University is a Centre of Excellence in Media Practise!

You can find out more here;

OR feel free to send me a message or pop over to Bournemouth Universities forums on TSR!

Good luck everyone with your applications!

Chris
Anyone know anything about LCC Film and TV?

I'm struggling to choose between LCC or aTV prod. at Middlesex.

Need some help! Please feel free to contribute. I've been accepted to the below mentioned MA programs but need help deciding and comparing:

Goldsmiths University of London, Directing Fiction MA
MET Film School, Directing MA
LEEDS Beckett, MA Filmmaking
Arts University Bournemouth, Directing, Film Production MA
London Film Academy, Diploma (option of continuing MA at Hertfordshire or Anglia Ruskin)

Tough decision, need advice!
I have received offers for both Ravensbourne and Bournmouth uni, I am studying TV production which university has the better reputation and higher employment rate?
I actually created a post but didn't get any replies so I thought I'd try here.
I read lots of "film production" related post here and the more I read, the more confused I got .:bawling:

Im a student from Singapore and looking to do film production in UK.
These are the schools I've looked at :

Norwich University of the Arts (Recommended by an agent; any comments about this)
Hertfordshire (The two ends of reviews make me really lost)
UCA Farnham (Mix reviews ; Any comments?)
Leeds Beckett (I swear I thought this and leeds met was different but apparently not LOL. got some mix reviews of this as well)
Staffordshire (Someone said the admin was bad and location is worse ... but the course looks good)
Gloucestershire
Ravensbourne (Expensive place tho)
USW (this is newport film school right?)

TBH There's alot more (I literally has a list and I really can't decide.) Any help would be good ! I don't have experience in the industry, only a couple of short videos from a module in my previous studies (Diploma in Audio Visual Technology) . Hopefully to be able to find a balance between university life and good course.

Thank you!

Hey everyone

Have you guys heard of Ravensbourne before? we offer both a BA (Hons) Digital Film Production and a BA (Hons) Digital Television Production course here. Ravensbourne has a heavy focus on our industries all around and promotes cross-course collaboration. Perhaps these might be courses to consider?

If you are interested you could come along to one of our open days. You can more info on them >here< :h:

I wish you the best for your future and if you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask!

you have picked the best two, congartulations. but RAVENSBOURNE is the best, just ask anyone in the industry !
RAVENSBOURNE always has been, and still is THE best in TV. just ask anyone of note in the industry...
Bournemouth went through a rough patch, but has now made big investment in TV again (as well as its traditional film).
Westminster has some FILM connections.
Winchester has a great little course, but has good studios and great lecturers (and is a lovely place to study and live). SOLENT is appaling, they have spent a lot (on most cheap Blackmagic rubbish) and the lecturers are so old and out of date (none have any relveant experience in the industry).
Remeber that courses only survive by getting filled, and 'media' is a great way to fill those seats, not all can fulfil your expectations or actually get you any REAL job... some like solent even 'massage' their emplyment figures by having their own 'inhouse' 'production company' for example, how desperate are they to exagerate their 'employment'.
MediaCity in Manchester has some very good connected courses (I now work here after work placement) my friend who went to Solent has never got a job, so i speak with knowing.
Hi everyone, straight to the point: I have an offer from BU and another from Met Film School, both in MA Cinematography. Which one would be the best for this area? I'm international student. Thanks!

Is it BU or AUB?

If it's BU then it isn't on the same level as met.
Thanks for your answer, PQ. Yes, it is BU; however, why aren't they in the same level? What's the difference?

Quality?
Structure?
Opportunities?

I'm looking for something really pratice oriented. Thanks.

BU specialise in tv and media/marketing. Film is an extension of that specialty not their focus.
Do u even realize this thread is more than 8 years old!!!

Hmm, so you are saying it would be a different approach, more geared toward television production rather the Film production (as different segments of the entertainment industry); and not basically a distinction between digital vs film as tools of work, right?

Definitely I will check again the Met program which I believe has the film approach that I'm looking for.

Thank you, PQ.

Hi guys! I will be applying for 2018 entry to the University of Edinburgh, University of Stirling (Film and Media BA) and I'm looking for some other places. Currently, I'm doing a research on Edinburgh Napier and Salford (Manchester). Any opinions on them? I heard a lot of both bad and good things about Salford and their TV and Radio and Film Production courses. I think Salford's great advantage is having close relations with BBC and generally with the industry.
Hi Erin, I am currently trying to pick the best uni for Film and TV production, on Facebook there is a group which you should join, they discuss matters like this all the time which is super helpful. It's called People looking for tv work: Runners. From the research I have done the best ones are:
Queens Belfast
Solent
Sae Institute
Royal Holloway, London
Edinburgh
Glasgow
Ravensbourne
Falmouth
Oxford Brookes
NFTS
University for Creative Arts
Bournemouth
Surrey
Met Film School London

I have 'bold' the ones which I am most interested in - there are so many options I think it is best to go look around them first before making up your mind! Good luck

Yeah I know now. I decided to apply to University of Edinburgh (film & tv and some other language course - still haven't decided on that one), Stirling (film & media and french & spanish) and Edinburgh Napier University (film). But thanks for the warning.
What is the Edinburgh course like - is it mostly practical, are there links to work experience and placements, especially looking for contacts at the BBC and ITV!
