I actually applied to BEng and MEng because Bath is my favourite school of all I visited. It really really spoke to me, and I didn't want to waste a spot on some random school. (I only visited so only liked a handful. But I LOVED Bath).

Hopefully I should get in. Fingers crossed. >.<
I don't know about your American qualifications or anything, nor do I really know much about the engineering departments at Bath, but I can imagine it generally isn't really recommended at all that you apply to both the same 3 and 4 year courses in the department, because the admissions tutor is very likely to be the same person, and hence, if you are going to be rejected by one, then you are bound to be rejected by the other.
Also, it might be worth researching this further, but for some places for some courses, typically mathematics I know, they make no differentiation between applicants of the same 3 or 4 year courses, simply because you're allowed to change between then freely within the first 2 years because they are identical. I'm not sure at all about the course you're applying for though.
Having said that, it could show that you're really dedicated to the course, and I suppose you're not really losing anything if you didn't know what else to fill that spot with. Although, I would really recommend you apply to a different place, at least that way you have a chance of another offer?
Another note, if it seems relevant, you could mention how you have to travel for 4 hours or whatever in your personal statement - that kind of thing really shows your passion/dedication to the subject.
I read that entire post in an extremely scottish accent and I don't know why.
However!
That's what I'm going for. Having seen quite a few schools, I made my choices. Yes, perhaps there are incredible ones which I was not fortunate enough to see, but alas, I am not so foolish as to apply blindly. :3
So yes, as Bath was my favourite of places, I decided to use two. I hope they'll see it as devoted.
And indeed, I'm quite proud of my personal statement.
