What did you guys think?
What did you write about for 1(c)?
I thought it was harder than some of the practice papers, but mainly because I spent ages trying to think of what to write about for 1(c).

Wowzers, I'm no geographer...
Yeah I thought it was harder for part 1, but then they gave you an easier part 2 to compensate.
For 1c I worte about how the N/S divide, and the industrial triangle in Italy had influenced the nature of Mussolini's support...and I was quite pleased with my answer

My careers teacher is a geography teacher and i told him the question and he was like were you applying for geography. i haven't done geography in years. I just opened it and was like 'no, don't throw up.' it didn't help that there was a total mix up with my paper and they thought it was lost or something.
For 1c I wrote about Ireland. which annoys me because I revised germany so much and expressed my hatred for Irish history alot. and then wrote about it. and now I have to admit to everyone that they were right and i do like it a little bit. I wrote about how the ulster plantation (a settlement pattern. woo) led to a North/ South divide between Nationalists and Unionists and how the north wwas more industrialised than the south and this led to divisions, which eventually led to partition in 1921. I just freaked when i saw it and thought omg how does Germany fit into this. i took it to my history teacher, when i finished and she got me a germany answer within a few minutes.
I did like question 2 though. lots and lots to write.
We'll have to get everyone from the old HAT prepartion thread to join this one!
Just the long wait, now. I'll be a nervous wreck come 2nd December. You sent written work yet?
yay, we can finally discuss it! I thought that question 2 was ok, but 1c was pretty harsh. I wrote about the crusades and how Jerusalem attracted the knights, but tbh I don't think that I actually talked enough about the physical attraction, as I mentioned other factors as well. I surprisingly had enough time to answer all of the questions, but i'm not overly confident, especially after the shambles that was 1c. Oh well, does anyone know when we find out whether or not we've got an interview?

Some time between 29th November and 2nd December.
I finished early. I finished at 11.20 and was meant to finish at 11.30.
I went 'i don't want to look at it anymore.' and my teacher said 'do you want me to take it?' so I said yes and then left. I just had nothing left to say. I know I haven't done great in it. My part C was only 2 pages long because i couldn't write enough about the physical thing. I just hope its enough for an interview.
1, I want to know NOW, y'know? and 2) wow you finished early? crumbs, I nearly ran out of time (again!). Urggh I so want to know whether I have an interview or not! It's so unfair we never get to know our scores.

I finished with around about 10 minutes to spare as well, which was worrying as I thought that i'd be tight on time, so I was flipping through making sure that i hadn't missed a question! My essay was rubbish, and the more I think about it, the more I don't think that i'm going to get an interview. But all of my friends keep on saying 'you're definitely going to get in' which is soooooo annoying! I only wrote 2 pages for 1c as well, but it said write 1.5-2 so at least we were in the limit.

Yeh. i just didn't know what to write.
I hope we all get interviews. We could meet up.
I want to know nowww. I've been looking at flights and stuff all morning.
I want to know now too. But its less than a month.
I thought it was ok. I could do 1a and 1b. For 1c an example immediately sprang to mind; the battle of Bosworth field and how the physical landscape (hills, marshes) affected the outcome.
I actually thought 2 was harder. I could get plenty of easy to see detail, but not really anything that was deeply buried below the surface.
I also had plenty of time, only spent an hour on Q1, then 40 mins on Q2 then had 20 minutes to go through it all.
Have no idea how I've done though, the more I think about it, the worse I think my 1c answer is!
Urgh, i havent the faintest clue how I did. It felt OK, but same as others i dont feel i really went below the surface or said anything unique that was particularly clever...
If it was an A-level paper id feel great, but its meant to distinguish BETWEEN the As, so im quite concerned.
I was writing right to the last second, but i still didnt have enough time for 1c. Everything i said in relation to it was pretty run-of-the-mill, and due to time i didnt really stick to that tight a structure - which is normally the thing i do best
Shame, as I would have really enjoyed the paper if there had been no pressure! I just hope i did enough for an interview.
I did the 1a 1b quite well. My 1c was actually quite good, I wrote about Napoleon and how is army froze to death in the freezing Russian winter (I also evoked the parallel with Hitler's troops during WWII).
the number 2 was probably my weakest answer, I talked about what was most important (religion only caring for equal right if they can gain from it etc...) but I still have the feeling that there was something hidden in that text.
All in all, I hope I managed well enough.
Will there be a possibility to see the questions and documents online?
ive realised i did something stupid, as well... i banged on about the importance of symbols in religion at the time for part 2 with the crucifix, and then realised that nothing had changed today, and was like "but thats the same nowadays, soooo ANYWAY, back to the 14th century..."!! in more sophisticated language, though!

Same, we probably all will That'd be nifty. Have you booked flights?
Hey I think the symbolism point is valid as it is something you can easily infer from the text. If it isn't what they were looking for one of my main points is down the drain too!
If anyone out there wrote 1c on Mussolini let me know what you wrote about, it'd be nice to see what someone else came up with (no one else I know wrote on it)
Notice how there are lik 70 views but only 9ish replies...if you took it say so! We're all in it together anyhow

Yes. Need to stick together.
I feel abit like that about 2 I suppose. I wrote about the corruption of the church, the importance of symbols, now women weren't equal etc etc. I dunno what can really be 'hidden' But in a way. That was all too ovbious compared to the practice ones. What did everyone think of the passage for part 1?
I talked about how the structure imposed by society upon nature - i.e. the canal thing - was a) demonstrative of a materialistic society determined to squeeze every last coin out of the earth and b) symbolic (hey, author did make this point!) of the stucture imposed upon the people themselves, so they didn't in anyway have the freedom commonly associated with the romanticised view of the time.
But i wrote practically the same thing for parts a and b, so ive given an incorrect answer to one of them at least Also, looking back, i didnt infer anything about the technological advancements made at the time
AAAHHHH im so not gonna get an interview! i wish i could just stop beating myself up over it though.
Edit: also also, for part 2 i didnt even CONSIDER provenance. im so gonna be a REJECT

Erk I cant even remember what the q's a and b were...although I do know they were the ones I was least happy with
Umm I coudn't see much relevance in the provenance tbh...could be wrong though...
I found 1c quite hard. I spent about 15 minutes just thinking about what to write. I eventually settled on the Russian civil war and its outcome being determined by Russia's ethnic minorities, which in retrospect wasn't very 'geographical' and the distance between settlements.
I felt i wrote good answers for the rest of the exam. But 1c was a real bitch of a question. Be good to hear what everyone else wrote about.
Oh God, 1c was a bitch, all I could think about was the Nazis being driven out of Russia because of the cold weather, so I just went with that and then talked about the other factors (like the Western front, America, tenacity of Russians, underpreparedness of Germans etc)
And q2 everything I mentioned was really obvious, I don't think I scored well in Historical imagination But hopefully the rest was decent, wouldn't be surprised if I got a rejection
I think I really messed up on 1 a and b, C should have been fine, wrote about the 1905 Russian revolution, and how it was influenced by Russia's poor agrarian conditions, and slum like conditions which formed as a result of industrialisation. Also talked about other possible causes which may have been of greater importance, the nature of Tsarist government, the Russo-Japanese war and Bloody Sunday.
I should have done ok on two, tried to infer quite alot, as well as mentioning the obvious.
