I thought 1c was ok. Talked about the failure of the Radical Reformation but no-one on here seems to have done my syllabus Much less happy with the rest of 1 but thought I answered 2 pretty well

Well I thought all of the questions were pretty easy but, it's more the fact that they were too easy that has me concerned. Especially for Q 2 which was too directional - prefered in the other papers how they left the approach up to you rather than specifying what they wanted.

As for 1C, I did the Spanish Civil War and went for resources, weather and the 'continental island effect' for my paragraphs. The main thing that screwed me over was that rule for only writing on one side of the paper: ran straight across onto the back-side of my second page because I was in full flow on the essay - realised when it came to move onto the next sheet of A4 which then panicked me so much I forgot to write a freaking conclusion so I had to tag that on on the last page. It was so damned stressful but, Im glad I finished with ample time left at the end to be able to read through and spot the missing conclusion!

At least thats over and I can relax for a while now

I wrote about Germany. Wrote about how the policy of Weltpolitik was partly caused by Germany's weak natural frontiers and also the growth of industrial areas. But I didn't really have a great deal to say about Weltpolitik, so I think I drifted off into a more broad argument about Imperial Germany before the war.

I also get the feeling I really really missed the point in 1a and 1b, the 'symbology' thing I just did not recognise at the time

I wrote about Operation Barbarossa too... Yep, 1c was a bit of a shock.

Other than that, I quoted Eddie Izzard and wrote the word 'penises' - I had a whale of a time!!

I'M really stressed now, seeing some of the stuff people are worried about leaving out.

1a: I managed, showed how the Americans wanna make a max profit and as a consequence forget some of the more important things in life.
1b: Didn't do all to well, I mainly centered my argument around the "atmosphere" a society needs to develop properly
1c: Something sprang to my mind right away, so I think it went quite well.
2: I wrote everything that was obvious, I did however ignore symbolism because it didn't seem relevant at the time.

I may not have written the best paper, but I hope that combined with my personal statement and letter of recommendation, I'll get an interview (but I don't expect anything right now).

Were we supposed to only write on one side of the paper? I wrote double-sided

Can anyone answer my question about writing on both or only one side of the paper?

I found the paper generally a bit weird, but passable

I thought of something straight away for 1c. I wrote how the NLF fought the Americans in the Vietnam War with guerilla warfare etc. So that fitted in rather well.

I can't even remember what I wrote for 1a and 1b... I made sure I didn't go over the limits they suggested though!

Yeah, you're only meant to write on one side of the paper. Makes it easier for photocopying and stuff. I'm sure it won't affect your mark or anything though, so don't worry.

Yes you were meant to write on one side of the paper and it is enforced as an additional applicant cull, as it is deemed that if you are not able to follow simple instructions you are not suited to this calibre of establishment.

Jokes Seriously, or teacher reading out the instructions said straight after reading the bit about only writing on one side that if you forget, just to carry on and not to bother trying to copy out your answer as it is only for ease of photocopying.

Yeh in the FAQ thing it says don't worry about writing on both sides.
But did anyone else have to number their pages and write "The End" at the end or was the invigilator I had a little bit crazy?

I did that...and I didn't have a ruler and made a really messy line...urgh. I can understand why they did it though.

I didn't have a ruler either, plus I ruled under my plan for each question before I started the questions. I hope they don't reject me for being messy haha

Damn, but I'm relieved

I did it with our local British Council and they did not tell us to write on only one side

Never mind, I really really hope that I get an interview but the more I read this thread and the more I think about it, the more I feel like I'm not gonna get one

I did Operation Barbarossa/Germany losing the Easrtern front - was the only thing I knew about where geography has had an impact and had enough to write about and challenge.

I did not like the geography focus of it - that really threw me off

Fingers cross I get above the 'deselect' mark and get an interview.
