There's wired Internet is all rooms, wifi in few, but pretty uncommon. You get given a short cable when you arrive to connect to the internet with.

Around campus - there's wifi in just about all the teaching buildings. There's a colorful map floating around the internet somewhere if you want to know about anywhere in particular - google "iss lancaster wifi".

Ahh great thank you
I was just thinking about phones that need wifi...Do they work in rooms?
Are the cables reliable?

There probably won't be wifi, depends where you are going for though. I know the newly rennovated Furness Standard has Wifi. And I've never known anyone have a problem with the cables...you may want a longer one if you want to sit on your bed with in though in an ensuite!

Sit in your bed with your laptop that is, not just the cable. That would be a bit odd.
The cables are quite reliable, and we haven't really had many problems with them in our flat. As far as I'm aware, phones that need wifi don't work in our rooms here in County, although they may in some others; the people I know who have them generally just stick to using their laptops to access the internet in their rooms, and when they need to use wifi on phones and such just nip down to the Learning Zone or around there and do whatever they need to. Generally speaking, many of our lectures will be just a couple of steps away from a Wifi zone (for example, Faraday building lectures are very close to Alexandra Square, from where Wifi spots are easily accessible), so it shouldn't be too much of a hassle.

Hey, I've firmed for Lancs for Advertising & Marketing,

This will probably seem like a stupid question but I can't seem to find where it says when we get sent the forms/application stuff for accommodation.

Does anyone know? (Bet you it's in a really obvious place and I'm just blind as a bat...)

Thanks!

You will get an email quite soon, usually late May or early June, asking you to choose the type of accommodation you want and your two choices of college.
You need to reply to it by the closing date.
Then you won't hear anything until after results day, when you will be told which college you are in.
does bowland standard have a communal area to sit and watch tv?

I'm going to be surviving solely on student loans/grants at uni... I got an email from SF saying the money would be paid to me 'a few days after the beginning of your course' which is excellent, naturally, but if it comes through after the rent is due, what am I supposed to do about this?? Help please!!

Then you'd just ask your college officer if you could pay your accommodation fee later because your loan/grant has not come through yet. They're cool with that.

Thank you so much  that's amazing!
I'm going to Lancaster this year and I'm thinking of applying for either a county/Grizedale townhouse or county superior standard accommodation. was wondering whether anyone at Lancaster atm could give me any advice to help decide? I really want somewhere with a social area and as far as I know these are the only accommodation types that have one. are these 'sociable' halls? I'm not bothered about having an en-suite!

I've lived in County townhouse and Superior standard and personally I'd go with superior standard - you get cleaners (which actually makes quite a bit difference!), there's wireless internet and for some reason it's just less claustrophobic than townhouses generally. It's also about £5 a week cheaper, which adds up  You really don't need an en-suite as there are five bathrooms for 10-13 people which are cleaned every day! Both are really great, sociable accommodation blocks though. With 10-13 people in a flat you're pretty much guaranteed to meet people you'll get on with  If you have any other questions let me know!

Does anyone know how many people share a flat in the superior ensuite accommodations for Grizedale and Fylde? And also do those flats have communal spaces with T.V's and sofas?

For Fylde I know it is 8 people in each flat. Not sure about Grizedale. Nope the flats don't have a communal space only the kitchen where me and my flatmates spend a lot of our time. There is a Fylde and Grizedale common room some where.
The colleges have a bar and a JCR common room/area. Most also have a TV room in the college building for socialising too.

Normally, the accommodation with extra socialising space make a big deal about it. Off the top of my head, that is mainly the townhouses and County superior standard.

Most only have the kitchen.
That isn't necessarily a bad thing. I've spent so many hours chilling with flatmates in the kitchen lol.

How come superior standard feels less claustrophobic than the townhouses? I would have thought it would be the other way around and the different floors in the townhouse would stop it feeling claustrophobic! I'm not bothered about an en-suite, just want somewhere with a living area. I left my last uni because I didn't like my course but also my halls were just corridors with a common room as social space, which although it was good fun sometimes, I just wanted somewhere to relax which was a bit more homely and personal! Do people use the social spaces a lot? I'm a people person and can't stand being stuck in my room all the time aha! Is county a sociable college too?
