Because when you enclose text within quotes it's considered a string literal, where the compiler uses the exact text put in quotes. So your first celsius on line 12 is not a string literal and is referring to the value of the double called celsius (which you initialised on line 8), while the second one is just representing the exact text "celsius". Hope that helps.

thanks
i note that you are doing computer science at ucl i want to know more about the course.

Is it good to learn stuff like hobbyist electronics?

Ah, your profile avatar contains a permutation of my username. I feel perturbed. -_-

I'm just starting there in a few weeks, so I don't know any more than is put on the website. As for hobbyist electronics, it might come in handy for personal projects but you kinda just pick up what you need to use.

Learning theory and complexity theory.

Is anyone doing OCR for a level computer science? Im struggling with the theory aspects as the book is absolutely shocking and does not follow the specification. Any tips? ( Currently in year 12)

I am doing OCR A2 Computing, still running off the old specification for this year.
I don't think any good revision materials have been made yet for the OCR Computer Science A level, but these are the ones I used in the previous years. Be sure to check that these are the right ones for the new course though (the guides in this series helped me to get 100/100 in F451 ):

Yeah there are like no resources for the new course, here is the link to the new course: http://www.ocr.org.uk/Images/170844-specification-accredited-a-level-gce-computer-science-h446.pdf
how similar is it to the old course? I rely on resources alot and the book is just so bad

The course has changed quite a bit, I did two 1.5 hour papers last year and have to do a 2 hour paper this year.

These are my findings when reading through the spec:

Spoiler

You could compare this new spec with the old spec to find example exam style questions for you to answer. Other topics like Djikstra's algorithm you could look at A level maths papers for or through online tutorials, as this is just a standard algorithm. Having a look at the old GCSE papers may help too.

Hope this helps, and that you do well in the course. For theory elements in the exam, I just learned the answers by heart as the answers to questions rarely changed each year, but I realise that would be difficult to to for a new spec :frown:

So this is the old spec: http://www.ocr.org.uk/Images/70162-specification.pdf
is it me or has the whole programming side changed for AS?
Yeah that is the spec that I am taking. It does look that the programming side has changed, but you might still be able to practice the past F452 questions as they still require similar problem solving skills.
Anyone here studying CompSci at St Andrews or Edinburgh?
Hi guys,

It was quite difficult for me to find revision material for the AQA GCSE computer science course, but here are some of the things I used last year to achieve an A* in Computer Science.

Links:
[http://www.aqa.org.uk/subjects/ict-a...d-mark-schemes AQA Past papers] ,

[http://www.aqa.org.uk/subjects/ict-a...ment-resources New Specification specimen paper] ,

Revision Books I recommend:

My Revision Notes AQA GCSE Computer Science Computing Fundamentals by Steve Cushing (This is the only one I used, and knew about)

Revision Notes:

I also made some revision notes that i would like to share with you all.
It can be found here:

I really recommend doing the all the past papers and specimen papers (even though there are only a few). Don't forget the specimen papers found in the new specification for teaching from next year ( I have linked it above) . Those papers have some questions which are irrelevant to this spec but just search through the papers to find questions you can answer. You can also attempt questions from other exam boards who have more past papers available.

The Specification is your best friend. Print it out and any note taking you do, make sure it confirms with the spec.
[http://filestore.aqa.org.uk/subjects...MPSCI-W-SP.PDF The SPEC]

Coursework-wise and exam-wise, I got A* for both, and i was predicted a B. The coursework was difficult and I'm sorry for not having any tips in relation to that, as I've forgotten everything since I've started AS levels.

Nonetheless, I hope you all good in your exams.
I work a lot with HTML and CSS. Can I join? (I know, I know, I don't do any of the complex stuff, but I need friends )

Hi there,
What kind of famous algorithims are present in drones?
Furthermore, could anyone tell me if PCB's, microcontrollers and communication shields are taught in a comp sci degree??
