Edexcel C1 16 May 2012 Post Exam Thread - Paper and Solutions in the FIRST POST

C1 May 2012

Reasonable paper with plenty of straight forward marks and some more challenging ones.

Q1 – Integration – standard question.
Q2 – Indices – more complicated than normal, but relatively easy.
Q3 – Surds – standard.
Q4 – Differentiation – Quite easy.
Q5 – Recurrence relations – fairly standard apart from an unusual inequality in the final part.
Q6 – Arithmetic sequences and series – a) pretty easy b) not really that hard either
Q7 – Integration and coordinate geometry – standard
Q8 – Quadratics – The negative aspect definitely makes it harder than standard, potentially a bloodbath this one.
Q9 – Coordinate geometry – reasonable a-d) but understanding e) was not easy, extreme bloodbath, but only 3 marks
Q10 – Very easy transforming graphs.

Last 3 June boundaries were 58/59/55 for 80 UMS. I would be surprised if these boundaries are very different from those last summer.
I am going to guess
73 = 100ums
66 – 90ums
59 – 80ums
52 – 70ums
45 – 60ums
38 – 50ums
31 – 40ums




This thread will be locked at somepoint and then unlocked at midnight following the Core 1 examination. I will upload the paper and my solutions to this post.
I will do my best to answer questions about the paper but please try to read the thread first so that I am not answering the same questions lots of times.Here are some links to previous C1 threads, they are worth a read and you will see what the common errors were...

Ok here we go... I thought that paper was rather tricky so I don't really know what to expect.

Agreed - am a bit gutted as I thought C1 was a chance to get full UMS but know for a fact I've missed that.

Paper was quite simple apart from one or two questions. Boundaries could be quite high this time round
what did people get for state range ov values for c?

Same, I was retaking to improve on 91 because of my C in core 3 and need to get and A overall. :frown:

C <(or equal to) 2

(I think it was that way round - I flipped the inequality, can't remember what it ended up as though!)

LOL I spent like 20 mins on that question, mainly because I had the crappiest diagram ever but in the end I got 90 for that

I split it into 2 triangles to work it out, took me forever though.
